THE MINISTRY OF HUSBANDS (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Psalms 77:19-20

More Scriptures: Gen.17:1-3, Ps.81:1, Ps.78:52

Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, you and I understood that we have the responsibility to know our sheep. We also realized that the more we know our sheep, the greater the access we will have to their inner thoughts and the better we will treat them. And that when we know our sheep, it helps our understanding and strengthens the bond of friendship between the shepherd and the sheep. Another ministry that you have as the godly husbandman is leading your sheep. As the head of the family, your headship confers on you the privilege to be ahead of your wife and children. And this position is a privileged one, it provides you the greatest opportunity to lead your sheep in every area of their lives. This includes leading them in spiritual, financial, mental, emotional, and social matters. As the godly man, husband and father, God expects you to always provide appropriate and godly guidance to your family. In Gen.18:19, Abraham, Sarah’s husband, provided the needed spiritual guidance for his family. God testified of him, when He said, I know Abraham that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Gen.18:19). This godly husband had a great influence on his sheep and sheepfold because he provided purposeful leadership.

You must understand that there are so many things contending for the attention of your wife and children. The influences from TV and radio, magazines and books, peer pressure are daily staring your sheep in the face. These people seek to tell your sheep how to act, think, dress and relate in ways that do not agree with the word of Jesus. As the godly shepherd, you must step in fast to neutralize the wrong offerings of satan, sin and the world. If you don’t step in quickly, you may lose them. So, there are three ways you can lead your sheep. The first is by your conduct, the way you talk, and your attitude. The second step is to expose them to spiritual demands of prayer, fasting and sharing the word of God with them. You must make out time to help them understand the word of God and the importance of praying for themselves and others. You must let them know what pleases God and what displeases Him. The third is for you to intercede for them in your private prayer altar so that the love of Jesus Christ will be firmly rooted in their hearts and minds. Give them the opportunity to ask you questions, however unintelligent they may sound. Be the ladder that they need to go up and achieve God’s plan for their lives. If you don’t want your wife and children to go astray and be negatively influenced by the devil, sin and the world, you must consciously and deliberately be ready to offer guidance to them.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not give up on my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me discern when my sheep have been corrupted by satan, sin and the world.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to influence my sheep for You and your works.

FAITH CONFESSION

I accept to lead my wife and children so I am committed to shielding them from the influences of satan, sin and the world because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
