WHEN YOUR ANGER HAS CROSSED THE LINE (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Eph.4:24-27

More Scriptures: Gen.30:2, Ezk.16:42, Pro.15:18

Yesterday, by the grace of God and the Help of the Holy Spirit, we understood from Scripture that as the godly husbandman and the head of your family, you have the right to be angry and it is completely okay. What is not okay is when you are unable to control your anger to the extent that it leads you to hurt your sheep, speak unruly to them and act in ways that do not befit your position as the good and godly shepherd. So, if you know that it is in order to be angry when you are hurt, what then should you take note of when your anger is about to cross the lines. Firstly, your anger crosses the lines when it leads you to be bitter against your wife and children. In Gen.30:2, the Scripture gives an account of a husband who was bitter against his wife because of the challenge of barrenness. Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister, and said to Jacob, give me children or else I die. And Jacob’s ANGER AROUSED AGAINST RACHEL…….. (Gen.30:1-2).   Once you notice that you are not just only angry at what your wife did but that you are beginning to hate her person to the extent of wishing her evil, then know that satan is hanging around to set you up for destruction. The second signpost is when your anger lingers for more than one day. What this means is that the life span of your anger toward your wife and children must not exceed one day. Therefore, putting away lying, let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. Be angry, and do not sin; DO NOT LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON YOUR WRATH, nor give place to the DEVIL. (Eph.4:25-27). If you can kill anger at its infancy, you have stopped every likely trap of the devil to make you act foolishly. What this means is for you to see and continue to see your wife as an imperfect woman who is likely to fail and your children as sheep needing your help. When you understand that your sheep is not perfect being, it enables you to respond positively rather than react in wrath to situations or circumstances that may make you sin. The third signpost is when you notice that you cannot remove the thought of the offence from your mind after a while. This means that rather than meditate on what positive efforts can be engaged to resolve the crises, you are meditating on how to take revenge. Your mind is dominated by how you can repay evil for evil. This is why the Bible admonishes that you should guard your heart with ALL DILLIGENCE for out of it are the issues of life. And you should overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21)

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome evil with good.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with the spirit of joy in the Holy Ghost.

FAITH CONFESSION

I live above the tendencies of the flesh and walk by the Spirit of God toward my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
