Any husbandman that wants to become the good and godly shepherd to his sheep must be prepared to submit to the Potter’s touch. He must go to the Potter’s house because He alone can restore the godly man, husband and father. I could relate with today’s title from my experience as a little child. During raining season, my friends and I will go around area to dig up clay to make pots. Sometimes, when we didn’t like what we made, we scattered the whole work and remolded again. Now, how does this affect me as a husband? First, it indicates that as the head of your family, you can be molded by God, who made you the head of the family. And you can also remold your wife and children until they become what God has ordained them to be. What this means is that the first thing you need to do to remold your sheep is for you to go to Jesus Christ to remold you. He is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. He will teach you all things. (Jn.14:26). Having come out of the Potter’s house, you can now remold your wife and children. In this instance, your sheep is the clay and you are the potter. This position comes with greater responsibilities. It is more than just providing what they would eat, drink or wear. God gave you flock (wife and children). You are just an agent and a steward. You owe God and the host of heaven a duty to demonstrate the love of Christ towards your flock.
Furthermore, your status as a potter demands good and godly responsibility and submission to God and His will. It also demands that you develop your flock. Clay is helpless and dependent, so you must handle with care. Its beauty or ugliness is the total of the input made by the potter. This is why the Scripture says, does not the POTTER have POWER over the CLAY, from the same lump to make one vessel for HONOUR and another for DISHONOUR (Rom.9:21). As a true representation of Jesus Christ in the lives of your wife and children, your ultimate desire is to make your wife and children instruments of honour. But for you to effectively function as a good and godly potter, you must be willing to serve your flock. When you serve your wife and children with the love of Christ, it would help you gain access into their inner most hearts and minds. They will open up to you and be ready and willing to respond to your instructions and guidance. No wonder Jesus speaking said, he that wants to be the greatest in this kingdom must first be a servant. Secondly, you must consciously make Jesus Christ your Saviour and LORD. Many husbands have made Jesus Christ their Saviour but not their Lord. When you make Him both your LORD and SAVIOUR, you give Him access to mold and re-mold you which in turn helps you to develop your wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, break me and deliver me from every root of pride.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, I rededicate my life and I make You my SAVIOUR and LORD.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, grant me grace to continue to make You the LORD over all I have and I am and would ever be.
FAITH CONFESSION
I surrender my life as clay to Jesus to mold so that I can be empowered to mold my wife and children in the way of the Lord because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
