Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Jn.4:18-19

More Scriptures: Rom.5:5, Gen.8:22, Gal.6:7

If you look at our main scripture today, you will notice that you and I love the Lord Jesus because He first loved us. It is His love towards us that stirs up a love response from you and me. We love Him because He first loved us (1Jn.4:19). As the head of your family and the spiritual leader in your home, you must consciously sow the seed of love into the lives of your wife and children. It is wisdom on your part to initiate the love circles in your family kingdom. I know that you desire honour and respect from your wife and children. But you must take responsibility to first love them.

Why must I first love my wife and children? First, you are the head of the family with the enormous tasks of providing direction and influence to your flock. Second, the life you live works on the principle of seed time and harvest. In Gen.8:22, the Scripture says, as the earth remains, seed time and harvest shall not cease. And Apostle Paul says whatever a man sows that is what he will reap. You must understand that your wife and children are fertile grounds. They are like the earth you stand on. If you plant seeds of corn, in the process of time, the seeds would bear fruits. So, you must see your wife and children in this light and be excited to sow the seed of love. It is when you sow the seed of love into their lives that they will be motivated to respond lovingly to you.

However, for you to love your flock first, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Until you allow the love of Christ to flow inside of you, it cannot flow out from you to your wife and children. In 1 Jn.4:16, the word of God says God is love and he that dwells in love dwells in God and God in him. Relationship with God! So also, you must continue to depend on the help of the Holy Spirit. He is your help. He is your enabler. He has the power to make you become that good and godly husband that your wife and children desire. He sheds the love of Christ abroad in your heart (Rom.5:5). And as you engage your life in this noble pursuit of sowing the love seeds, your flock will sing of your praises in high places.

  • Father, by Your Spirit, teach me how to love my wife and children with all my heart and might.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, reveal Yourself to me and help me run with it in my home.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, take me deeper in love with You and help me to demonstrate same to my flock.

I take a plunge into the depth of God’s love and live out its fruits in the lives of my wife and children because that is my heritage as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
