Did you know that as the good shepherd, the risks you are willing to take for your wife and children will determine the rewards that will come to you? As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, you are a risk taker. When you married your wife, you took a risk. When your wife began to bear you children, you took a risk. Even life itself is a risk. Now consider Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husbandman. He took a risk for the sake of humanity. He left the comfort of heaven and came to the earth. He endured the insults, pains and embarrassment because of the goal that was set before Him. What was the reward for the risk He took, to die for the world? Wherefore, God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth (Php.2:9-10). God honoured Him.
It is your honour to give up your convenience and engage in spiritual demands for the rescue of your wife and children. You may have to pray more than expected. You may have to increase the days when you wait upon the Lord in a fast. You may have to bear the insults and embarrassment of people for your spiritual investments in the lives of your sheep. You may have to bury your ego and pride and overstretch yourself for the good of your sheep. Sometimes, you may appear stupid and weak. But whatever you do for your wife and children which is consistent with what the Word of God says is worth the risk. Even when it seems like you are not getting the results that you desire, do not think divorce is an option. Resigning to fate and circumstances cannot be the best for you. Allowing the bad situation to degenerate to the extent that your wife and children would be consumed in pain and hopelessness is not the path of honour. The path of honour for you as the shepherd of your flock and the pastor over your wife and children is to take the risk to save your relationships with your flock. And when you take the risk, you enjoy the rewards.
Firstly, you become a man of authority over ungodly influence in the lives of your flock. Secondly, your wife will serve you as her lord. Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord…. (1Pet.3:6). Thirdly, your children will celebrate you as their mentor. Don’t close the case on your wife and children. You can redeem them from the grip of the devil.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, by Your blood, restore my dignity as the godly husbandman and leader in my home.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the spirit of fear and discouragement.
- Father, by Your Spirit, baptize me with the spirit of boldness, faith and confidence.
FAITH CONFESSION
I refuse the path of least resistance but take righteous risks to recover my glorious relationships with my wife and children because there lies my greatest rewards as the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
