LIVING LIKE JESUS CHRIST (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.6:12-15

More Scriptures: 1Cor.13:7, Mal.2:14, 1Jn.2:2

The above title was inspired in my spirit by the Person of the Holy Ghost while I was sleeping. And He began to teach me how costly the price of love is. And this verse of Scripture encapsulates the truth.

Husbands, love thy wife as Christ has loved the church and gave himself for it (Eph.5:25) KJV.

You husbands, show the same kind of love to your wives as Christ showed to the Church when he died for her. (Eph.5:25) TLB.  Do you understand the depth of this love that Jesus Christ demands that you give to your wife? Do you know how much Christ loved the church and how much He gave to it? This is love that the Word of God says you should give to your wife. It is not only demanding, it is also costly. And that is what I am led by the Holy Spirit to share with you. As a husband and the head of your family, it is your greatest and highest form of honour to love your wife as Christ has loved the Church. It is not cheap to love your wife. There is a price to pay for it. And as a husband, if you don’t understand this truth, you are mostly likely to be discouraged in showing love to your wife through and through. So, what is the price of loving your wife? The first price is the price of sacrifice. Sacrifice means doing what is needed even when it is not convenient. Sometimes, it is not convenient to forgive your wife, but you still have to because that is the will of God for you. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses (Matt.6:12, 14, and 15).  There are times your wife would have offended you to the extent that you are determined to stop being kind to her or even support her course. But when you remember that while you were yet a sinner Jesus Christ died for you, you will be moved with compassion to genuinely refuse to think evil of her. You believe all good things about her, hope that all will be well with her and endure her shortcomings (1 Cor.13:7). In fact, there are times you just wish you could do without her and perhaps send her out of your life. But when you remember that God hates divorce and it is His will for you to dwell together with her forever, you will stand up against the devil threatening to destroy your home (Mal.2:14-16, Matt.19:5, Gen.2:21-25). Other times she would offend you to the extent that you just don’t feel like praying for her. But when you remember that Jesus Christ, your Advocate constantly intercedes for you, you are motivated to intercede for her (1Jn.2:1-2). Therefore, note that to love your wife is both a feeling and a conscious decision to do as Jesus would do. So, live it.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, show me the depth of Your love and open my eyes to the revelation knowledge of my headship as the godly husband.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, set me free from the spirit of weariness and sorrowfulness of heart.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do as You would to my wife in all circumstances.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am empowered by the Spirit of God to love my wife as Christ has loved the Church and gave Himself for it because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
