THE WALK OF FAITHFULNESS

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Lk.16:10-13

More Scriptures: Gen.17:1, Gen.12:2, Gen.17:5

As husbandmen that God has called to live a good and godly life, we must be very careful of the subtle sin called pride and the mind-set that tells us that we have arrived or that we know it all. This consciousness is very important because it helps every husbandman to grow in his responsibilities to his wife and children and the world. Whatever you know and irrespective of the position you hold, your faithfulness will be tested. Your walk with Jesus Christ will be tested. You may be faithful to your wife but are your faithful to God’s instruction on your finances? You may also be faithful in giving to the Lord, but are you faithful in giving to those who are in need around you? As the head and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, you must continue to work with God so that He can help you to grow from one level of faithfulness to another. That is spiritual maturity.

And when Abram was ninety-year-old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram and said unto him, I am the Almighty God, walk before me and be thou perfect (Gen.17:1).

The will of God for you is to be faithful to your wife, children, finances, relationships and in everyway possible. However, there are certain satanic forces that want to contend with the will of God for your life. So, let us consider some of the forces striving against our heritage as godly husbandmen. Firstly, it is the force of falsehood. This spirit deceives people to take some things very lightly- telling you that it does not matter. For instance, the spirit tells you that it doesn’t really count as a sin if you have extra marital affair. It tells you that afterall everybody is doing it. It tells you that it is manly to keep malice with your sheep or even depend on your wife’s income to survive rather than work with your hands, diligently. This was the case with the first husband, Adam. Satan told him and his wife that it was okay to eat of the tree of good and evil which the Lord God had warned them not to eat from (Gen.3:1-6). Satan is a deceiver. He presents falsehood as truth. But you must contend with him on the basis of the word of God.

The second force is the spirit of pride. This is one area that you and I as husbandmen must watch out for and fight. Pride tells you that you are in charge and no one can talk to you or correct you. Infact, it tells you that you are above the correction and wise counsel of your wife and children and other godly people around you. It blocks your ears to reason. You must understand that just as you are the head of your wife and children, you also have a head whom you report to, and that is God. So, you must continue to learn to subject yourself to Him and His instructions to make the most of your headship as the good and godly shepherd. And as you walk to grow in faithfulness, you become blessed and a godly father indeed to your wife and children (Gen.12:2, Gen.17:5)).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to grow from one level of faithfulness to another.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, deliver me from every force of deceitfulness and arrogance.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, baptize me with the Spirit of grace and humility so that I will continue to depend on You for a faithful work.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the life of God and the Spirit of His Son, Jesus, so being faithful becomes my heritage as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
