YOUR WIFE IS YOUR COVENANT COMPANION

Spread the love

Scripture: Malachi 2:14-15

More scriptures: Pro.5:18, Pro.2:17, Ecc.4:9-12

Halleluyah! Today is the last day in the month of February, 2021, the year God has asked us to move forward as a people. I have no doubt that the Person of the Holy Spirit has empowered, inspired and motivated you to become all that God wants you to be to your wife and children and the marketplace.

Yet ye say, wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously, yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant. And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore, take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth (Mal.2:14-15).

Today’s teaching is to remind you of the position that your wife occupies in your life. You must recognize that God did not make you to be an island (Gen2:16-18)? Even God, as great as He is, is not alone. He has with Him the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. God created you as a husband to partner with someone. And that someone is YOUR WIFE. Your wife remains your first and most important partner because of the fact that both of you have become ONE FLESH (Matt.19:5, Gen.2:24). It is very important that you also know that your partnership with your wife is a covenant, sealed by the power of God. So, from the day you married your wife, you entered into a spiritual, covenant relationship with her and God as a witness.

Partnership with your wife as God commands is your fastest route to overcoming the obstacles and traps of life. Be it barrenness, financial emptiness, evil forces, unruly children or extended family crises. In Ecclesiastics chapter 4 verse 8, the scripture makes it clear that being alone opens you to unending labour and struggles. But when you partner with your wife, it provides you a safety net of strength and comfort. Therefore, rekindle your friendship with your wife. Make her your best friend. Don’t deal with her wickedly but in knowledge and wisdom (1Pet.3:7). Remember that she is your project, and you will present her before God on the judgment day according to Ephesians 5:20-27.

But how do I make my wife my covenant partner for effective relationship? Treat her with respect at home and outside the house (1Pet.3:7). Pray for her often, especially in those areas of her life where she needs help (Gal.4:19). Serve her with your time, body and finances (1Cor.7:4-5). Be open to her about your visions and be her teacher (1Tim.3:2). Be kind and faithful to her (1Tim.3:2). When you do these things, then you would have succeeded in making her your covenant partner.

Spiritual exercise:

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for maltreating my wife and disobeying Your instructions.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to become the good and godly husband to my wife.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of love and let Your word have absolute preeminence over my life.

Faith confession:

I have made up my mind to be guided by the instructions of Jesus Christ as the Groom of the Church, in relating with my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly shepherd in Jesus name. Amen.
