THE POWER OF YOUR IMAGINATION (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen. 11:4-6

More Scriptures: Jer.1:11, Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4

And they said, go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let is make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, behold, the people is one and they have all one language and this they begin to do, and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. (Gen.11:4-6)

There is power in the image you form in your heart because it defines your actions and motives. This is very important for you and me as heads of our sheepfold and particularly as it relates with how you see your wife, children and your family. From the Scriptures in Genesis chapter 11 and verses 4 to 6, the word of God tells us about a people who had imagined in their hearts to do something. Their imagination was so strong that it drew the attention of God and God said, “nothing will be retrained from them”. If you treat your sheep carelessly, it is because you do not have the God-kind of image about them. If you are easily deceived by people and act to your wife and children in ways that do not reflect the nature of God, it is because you have the wrong image about your wife and children. Do you know why I will forever treat my wife and children as special gifts from God? It is because I have the God-kind of image about them.

Now, this is the significance of the power of your imagination. If you imagine in your heart that your wife is the best gift God has given to you, no devil, no force, no man or woman, no pressure can restrain you from treating her with honour, respect and dignity (1Pet.3:7). If you have the image of your wife as a woman who is fearfully and wonderfully made, you will never allow anyone or thing to influence you negatively against her. If you have the image of your wife as your beloved, you will not be tired of staying with her nor the marriage-everyday with her is a bonus and sweeter (Eph.5:25, 1Cor.13:4-7). So, also, if you imagine your children to be the seed whom the Lord has blessed (Is.61:9), you will protect, provide and guide them-you will not spare your spiritual investment of praying, fasting and ministering the word of Jesus Christ to them in love (Gal.4:19, Eph.6:4). If you can imagine your children as gifts from the Lord (Ps.127:3), you will bless them rather than curse them. But if you have the image of your wife and children as nothing of value, it will be very easy to walk out and abandon your sheepfold; it will be easy to neglect your spiritual, emotional, physical and financial commitments to them. So, the task before you today is to examine yourself if you have enough godly images about your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the name of Jesus, forgive me for having the wrong images of my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, please, give me the right images of my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, beautify the images I have of my wife and children daily.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give attention to the Word of God so that I can have the right images of my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
