Today, by the grace of God and the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, I want you and I to spend some time on the second book of Corinthians chapter 8 and verse 21. It answers the questions most husbandmen ask about what their lives should produce as the godly man, husband and father. This is what the Bible says. Providing HONOURABLE THINGS, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men (2Cor.8:21).
As the head of the family, you are ordained by God to provide honorable things not only in the sight of God but also in the sight of men, beginning with your wife and children. To physically abuse or beat up your wife is not honorable. Some husbands have this belief that it is only when they beat up their wives that they (wives) submit to them. That is a lie from hell. For you to deny your wife and children goodwill and provision is not honorable. For you to keep malice with your wife and children is not honourable. It is not honourable to cheat on your wife. It is not honourable to steal from your wife, children, employer, country, or anyone. Anything you do that is contrary to what God has commanded from His word is dishonorable act.
Now, there are some husbandmen who appear honourable before their pastors or church members. They are zealous in church activities, they give their time, talent and money to the work of their local church. Sadly, they are a terror to their sheep at home. As the husbandman who desires to be good and godly, you must not only be honourable before God, you must also be honourable before your wife and children. That is the message for you today. So, how do you produce honourable things before God, your wife and children? The first thing to do is to love your wife and children sincerely and passionately as Jesus Christ has loved you. If you understand the reality of God’s love, you will intentionally and joyfully extend love to your sheep (Jn.3:16). The second thing that you must do is to show interest in the lives and the things that your wife and children are doing. It may be in their career, work, business, ministry, education or family. If you show interest in the affairs of your sheep, you activate your mind to find solutions and support that will make them grow and succeed.
You are honourable in every way. That is how God made you. You have the virtue of honour built inside you when God made you and gave you leadership over your wife and children and home. You have no reason to live a dishonourable life. God wants you to conduct your life with honour before Him and your wife and children. Therefore, make your life honourable because you are the good and godly husbandman.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every root of ungodliness.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make my life whole and transparent before You and my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live my life according to Your will and purposes.
FAITH CONFESSION
God created me to live an honourable life and I produce honourable results before God and my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
