TWO SIDES OF THE COIN

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.2:15-18

More Scriptures: Is.40:11, Jn.10:14, Heb.13:20

There are two sides to the coin called the husbandman. And that is what I want us to consider today. When you become the husbandman, that is the head of your sheepfold-wife and children, you enjoy certain privileges and deliver on certain responsibilities. Now, what is a privilege? A privilege is special right or advantage available only to a particular person. So, when you are married, you enjoy the privilege of leading the most important unit of the society-the family. When you are married, you enjoy honour from your wife. When you are married, your wife and children honour and respect you. To be the husbandman is a privilege. To become a husbandman is a God-given opportunity for you to demonstrate His love and character towards your wife and children. The office that you occupy is a position of trust, which you must not abuse. Your wife and children are looking up to you for guidance and direction. They are also looking to you for inspiration. You are the head to provide the support your wife and children need to achieve their God given potentials. You must not disappoint God and the office.  Make the most of your time with your wife and children as the godly husbandman.

The second side of the coin is responsibility. Just the same way you enjoy certain privileges as the good and godly husbandman, you also have certain responsibilities that you must dispense to your wife and children. As the godly husbandman, you must understand that there are so many things that God has ordained that you must do to your wife and children. God wants you to love your wife as Jesus Christ has loved the Church (Eph.5:25). God wants you to train, nurture and motivate your children in the way and counsel of godliness and righteousness (Eph.6:4). God wants you to protect your wife and children from the assault of satan, sin and the world (Jn.10:10). God wants you to provide for the spiritual, material, emotional and financial need of your wife and children (1Tim.5:8, Ps.23:1). God wants you to teach your wife and children His word (2Tim.2:24). God wants you to build godly inheritance for your wife and children (Pro.13:22).

But why must I take up all these responsibilities? Firstly, it helps you develop and become a matured shepherd. Secondly, it fastracks your spiritual growth. What this means is that you will give more time to studying the Bible to know what God demands of you. You will also maintain a praying life for strength and wisdom so that you can discharge your responsibilities faithfully, timely and joyfully. There is so much that God has empowered you to do as the godly man, husband and father. You must embrace these tasks and give yourself to doing all that God commands you to do because that is the evidence that you are the good and godly husbandman that God and your wife and children can be proud of. Are you glad that you are the husbandman?

SPIRITUAL EXRCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to enjoy the privileges of being the godly husbandman to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to fulfill my responsibilities to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me enjoy the leadership role as the godly husbandman.

FAITH CONFESSION

I enjoy the benefits and fulfil the responsibilities of the head of the family because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
