YOU SHALL NOT TAKE WHAT ISN’T YOURS

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Joshua 7:18-26

More scriptures: Pro.9:17-18, Ecc.10:8-9, Rom.6:6

As the head of your family and the leading light in your family kingdom, do not take what is not yours. I mean, do not steal. This requires you to exercise carefulness in the way you conduct yourself and continue to ask for grace from God to live a life that is well pleasing. And if perhaps you have displeased God by stealing, you can seek for forgiveness from Him. The story in our main Scripture text today was about a husbandman called Achan, who disobeyed God and did not repent quickly.

And the Lord said unto Joshua get thee up, wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them, for they have even taken of the accursed thing and have stolen and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff (Jos.7:10-11).

Achan was a husbandman who touched the accursed things and paid for it with death on himself and his family. He stole. Now, when you steal what is not your own, you have kept in your home or office the accursed thing. When you visit the herbalist or keep idols with you in your home or under your seat in the office, you have kept the accursed thing. Don’t forget that God warned that you shall not have any other God beside Him because He is a jealous God. Any husbandman who touches the accursed things has brought curses upon his family.

Some families are suffering under satanic bondage because of what their fathers and husbands have stolen. Some husbandmen have stolen someone’s money and the person has placed a curse on them. Some other husbandmen have eaten the rewards of other people who have worked for them. There are still other husbandmen that have entered devilish covenants all in the name of getting wealth, fame and protection and later in life their children begin to suffer under undue limitations in their careers, finances, health and destiny. Gehazi, the servant of Prophet Elisha, a husbandman, took what is not his and he paid severely with leprosy and it extended to his family (2Kings 5:27).

Therefore, be careful with what you do with your life as the head of the family. You are not only living your life for yourself but also for the benefit of your wife and children. Do not steal. Flee from all appearance of evil.
