Bible Texts: Ps.37:36-37, Gen.17:1, Eph.6:4, Matt.22:37, Jos.1:8
For you to grow and develop into maturity as you lead your wife and children, you must take personal responsibility by taking these steps. Firstly, you must grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ for you and your wife and children. You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me (Jn.5:39) NIV. In Joshua chapter 1, you will see why you must seek the knowledge of God in order to become the good and godly husbandman. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Jos.1:8) NIV. God has provided you with the Bible. The Bible contains the information that will assist you know what to do and take decisions that will please Him and your sheep.
Secondly, you must daily examine yourself if you are still in line with the principles of Scripture. The Scripture says, examine yourself, consider your ways if thou art still in the faith (2Cor.13:2). The best form of examination and evaluation is self evaluation. Ask yourself some hard questions about how you have acted and conducted yourself as the man, husband and father. Do you think your action, conduct, thoughts and behaviour are consistent with the model Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, gave to you from His word? Speak truth to yourself.
And finally, contend in prayers and fasting, that the word of God will richly dwell in you and the nature of Christ will be formed in you. There is a kind that goeth not forth except by prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29). You destroy every ungodly character on the prayer altar and embrace righteous deeds.

- Father, in the Name of Jesus, as I eat, sleep, drink and go from one place to another, let my body not be attracted to sickness and affliction (Heb.10:23)
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, neutralize every satanic poison in my food or drink (Zech.9:11-12)
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, as I unknowingly take deadly substances, let them not have any effect in my body (Mk.7:15)
