OUR COVENANT RESPONSIBILITY TO OUR CHILDREN

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Eph.6:4, Ps.127:3, Ps.139:14, Jas.1:17

Precisely on Thursday the 18th of November 2021, while I was writing the devotional for 2022, the Person of the Holy Spirit spoke these words to me, “our covenant responsibilities to our children are the tests of our faithfulness to them”. And I want to share with you what this implies.

Let us look at the word of God about the position of your children. The first is that your children are heritage from the Lord. Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord and the fruit of the womb is his reward (Ps.127:3). God owns your children. You are a steward. Secondly, your children are good and perfect gifts from God. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning (Jas.1:17). Your children are not cursed neither are they burden. They are good and have great destinies in Jesus Christ. Thirdly, your children are fearfully and wonderfully made. I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps.139:14). Fourthly, they are like blank canvas. You are the person to write on it. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). It is your job to train, nurture, build and impart your children with the ways of Jesus Christ.

Now as the father to your children, it is your covenant responsibilities to teach your children.  You owe them that obligation. It is also your responsibility to provide shelter, food, security, education, clothing, healthcare to your children. It cannot be delegated. So, what makes you the good and godly father to your children is not the position of being a father but in the level of responsibility and commitment you have made to your children.
