Bible Texts: 2Pet.1:10-11, Hag.1:7, Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.5:8
I want us to do something different today and I invite you to be part of it, trusting the Person of the Holy Spirit to empower you, inspire you and motivate you to become the good and godly husbandman to your wife, children and in the market place of life.
I will quote two verses of Scripture as the foundation for the teaching today in order to engage you. This is the first. Examine yourself to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourself…….(2Pet.1:10-11) (ESV). The second is this. The Lord of Hosts says this; think carefully about your ways (Hag.1:7). With these two Bible passages, let us begin the test and see if you will pass the honour test.
Do you serve your wife and children and their interest or you want to be served? Jesus Christ who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman says, he that wants to be the greatest in this kingdom must be servant of all (Matt.20:26). Do you love you wife and care for her as Jesus Christ cares for the church? Husbands love thy wife and be not bitter against her (Col.3:19). Do you guide, pray, train and inspire your wife and children unto righteousness? Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in the admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4).
Are you disciplined with the resources that God has blessed you with or you are wasteful? After they were fed, He commanded them to gather the fragments (Jn.6:12). Are you a blessing to your parents or a burden to them? Honour thy father and mother……(Ex.20:12). Are you hospitable to your wife and children with your finances, experience, skills and knowledge? But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel (1Tim.5:8).
Are you working with your hands and mind to earn a living or you are relying and depending on your parents or wife for money to take care of yourself and pay the bills of the house wherein you are the head? He that does not work must not eat (2Thess.3:10). Are you a praying shepherd, interceding for your wife and children until Christ is formed in them? I travail in labour until Christ is formed in you (Gal.4:19).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of pride and self righteousness in me.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the spirit of humility.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do Your perfect will to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give attention to the word of God and I apply myself to the demands through my words and conduct because that is what makes me the honourable and godly husbandman to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
