BE YE GOD’S CHARACTER TO YOUR SHEEP (1)

Bible Texts: Eph.4:32, Rom.13:4, Eph.5:25, Col.3:19, Lk.6:36, Ps.23:1

Be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgive you (Eph.4:32).

I was reading one of my spiritual mentor’s books. His name is Rev. Keneth E. Hagin and the title of the book is “Three Big Words”. In his book, he said, “divine love has never been to the divorce court. Natural love has because it will turn to hatred”. What I learnt from this word of inspiration is that the love of Christ shed abroad in the heart of the good and godly husbandman can override every weakness, hurt and disappointment that he may have suffered from his wife or children. For the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Spirit of God (Rom.5:5). And in another breath, the Bible says that love covers the multitude of sin (1Pet.4:8).

Do you want to overcome tension in your sheepfold and enjoy harmonious fellowship and relationship with your wife and children? Then you must do these three things from the word of God that we introduced in today’s teaching. Firstly, you must be kind to your wife and children.

But what is kindness and why is it an attribute of the love the good and godly husbandman is required to extend to his wife and children? Kindness means helpfulness towards someone in need, not in return for anything, nor for the advantage of the helper himself but for that of the person helped. Note these words; help towards someone in need, not expecting anything in return. In 1Corinthian chapter 13 and verses 4 to 8, the Bible says, love is kind……(1Cor.13:4).

As the good and godly husbandman, you must work truthfully and graciously to help your wife and children, even if they do not thank you for it. You may not know it but this is the truth. Your wife and children really need your help. Please, extend help to them. You must show them kindness, mercy and forgiveness. Do not hate them and do not be bitter against them. It is true that they have offended you. It is also true that they have disappointed you in several ways. It is also true that their attitude irritates you. No matter what they may have done against you, you must learn to overcome their weakness with the love of Christ (Rom.12:21).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to develop godly character as the shepherd.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the root of corruption and ungodliness in my life.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of the influence of satan, sin and the world in my life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ, and my thoughts, words, conduct and action toward my wife and children reflect the character of Jesus Christ in Jesus name. Amen.
