MAKE THE CHOICE TO LOVE AGAIN

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Eph.5:25, 1Cor.13:4-9, Ecc.9:9-10, Jn.11:3, Phm.1:9, Col.3:9, Matt.7:7, Jn.14:26, Rev.12:10, Rom.12:21

Few days ago, I was invited to minister at a programme. And the focus is a happy home. I remarked that a happy home does not just happen, the husbandman has to make it happen. And one of the ways you can live the life of the good and godly husbandman to your wife and children is to love them again, no matter what they may have done against you. You must understand that your heavenly Father does not only give you a second chance, He gives you and I several chances because He loves us with an everlasting love. That is what I encourage you to avail to your wife and children today and going forward-give them several chances until you see them become all that God wants them to be.

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life…..I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill but time and chance happeneth to them all (Ecc.9:9,11)

Maybe you are reading this devotional and you have concluded that you can no longer love your wife again. Or you have made up your mind that your wife is not attracted to you anymore. And as a result, you have shown your wife unkindness, bitterness, hatred and bad will. This is not the right way to go. You can love your wife again, despite her failings and shortcomings. It does not matter how bad your wife may have looked or appeared to be, you can dare to love her again. You can resurrect those loving attitudes you used to extend to her before. You can sincerely love her as Christ has loved the church. God gave her to you so that you can make her into a woman of honour and dignity. Yes, it is true that she does not appreciate your kindness or goodwill. It may even be true that she has not reciprocated all the goodness you showed her. You must not stop loving her. You must never contemplate divorce or abandonment.

As the good and godly husbandman, it is important to note that loving your wife is not just a feeling, it is a choice you make out of every unpleasant circumstance. For instance, to give your money to your wife, extend your goodwill and show her kindness or pray for her despite weakness, is love. To extend a helping hand or speak nice words to her after she had insulted you is love. This is the lifestyle, Jesus Christ, the example of the good and godly husbandman, wants us to live by. If you only love your wife because she has done something right or shows you respect, then you are not different from the world. It means, your love is conditional. God expects you to demonstrate unconditional love to your wife and children.

Give your wife several chances. Do not give up on her. Do not withhold good from her. Let your desire each day for your wife be that Christ will be formed in her, transforming her into the good and godly woman, wife and mother.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every hold of bitterness and hatred I am holding against my wife.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with Your Spirit of love and help me to love my wife again.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with Your grace to sustain and continue to love my wife.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am refreshed by the Spirit of God to extend the love of Jesus to my wife because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
