Bible Texts: Eph.5:25, Jn.3:16, Lk.18:1, Ps.23:1-3, Rom.12:1-3, Lk.10:19, 1Tim.5:8, Matt.18:19, Jn.3:3-7, 1Cor.13:4-8, Acts 1:1
The next key you require to deliver on your authority as the head of your family in the administration of your sheepfold is the key of doing what the word of God commands you to do, diligently.
Many husbandmen hear the word of God but they do not practice what the word says. And for this act of disobedience of not doing what the word of God says, many husbandmen are struggling to lead their wife and children in the way of the Lord. As a result and sadly so, many more are not blessed as the man, husband and father.
The word of God teaches on the importance of obeying the word of God. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly shepherd has this to say to you and me. He that heareth my saying and doeth them, I will liken him to a wise man. So doing what God commands you to do makes you a wise husbandman and to make the most of your leadership in your home, you need the wisdom of God. The word of God says that wisdom is the principal thing and in all your getting, get understanding.
So, let us consider some of the commandments that God expects you to obey because even Jesus Christ was both a hearer and a doer (Acts 1:1). Husbands love thy wife as Christ has loved the church. (Eph.5:25). I know that you must have heard this instruction from God in church meetings or seminars or from your Bible. But how much of it have you practiced as the husbandman to your wife. The word of God didn’t give condition under which you have to love your wife. The Scriptures simply said, love her. So, whether she is educated or not, ugly or beautiful, tall or short, black or blue, disobedient or respectful, no matter her weakness and shortcoming, just love her.
And how would you love? You love her just the same way Jesus Christ who represents the true image of the perfect husbandman loves the church. He forgave and still forgives. He extends mercy to us after several failures. He has our backs covered even when we offend Him. He speaks to us gently through the Person of the Holy Spirit, even when we seem not agree with Him. He prompts us to have faith in Him even when we doubt every of His action. He extends kindness to us even when we intentionally disobey Him. He is patient with us in our failures even when we may have tried to improve (1Cor.13:4-7). That is the real deal. You don’t just love your wife by words, you act it because love not expressed can be doubted (Jn.3:16).
Also, God says this in His word. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger but bring them up in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). Another Scripture is in Genesis chapter 18 and verse 19. For I know Abraham, that he will command his children and his household after him and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Gen.18:19). And in 1st Timothy chapter three and verses three to six, the word of God says that the shepherd who cannot take care of his household is not fit to take care of the church (1Tim.5:8).
Obedience to all the commandments of God concerning your role as the good and godly man, husband and father is what gives value to your leadership as the godly husbandman.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to obey Your commandments as they relate to my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, please give me wisdom and make a worthy teacher of Your word to my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a practical example of truth, honesty, mercy, forgiveness, faithfulness and holiness to my wife and children.
I obey all the commandments of God for me as the godly man, husband and father and through my obedience I have the wisdom of God working in my life and through it, I lead my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
