DO GOOD AND KEEP DOING GOOD

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Rom.12:9-13, Jer.1:11-12, Philp.4:8, 1Thess.5:22, Jn.3:16, Rom.12:21, Dan.1:8, Jn.10:10, Matt.6:22, Gen.12:1-3, Matt.5:14

Did you know that no matter how terrible your wife or child may be, there is something good about them that you are yet to discover? Did you know that your wife and children are not as bad as they appear? Did you also know that your wife and children have great potentials to become God’s best to humanity? It is for these reasons that you must not give up doing good to them.

The Scripture in Romans chapter 12 and verses 9 to 3 exhorts you and I not to be slack in doing the right thing rather we must cling to what is good.

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. CLING TO WHAT IS GOOD. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another. Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer, distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality (Rom.12:9-13)

As the good and godly husbandman, God wants you to do only what is good from His WORD to your wife and children. God doesn’t want you to allow the weaknesses or negative attitude of your wife and children to make you do what is not good. This is why in Romans chapter 12 and verse 21, the word of God says, be not overcome with evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21). You must stay focused on your covenant roles as the good and godly husbandman (Matt.6:22) and not allow satan to make you focus on the negatives of your wife and children and take your focus away from doing good to them (Jn.10:10).

What then are the good you must do and continue to do as the good and godly husbandman? The Word of God in Romans chapter 12:9-13 gives the answer. God’s word says, be kind, walk in love, give honour, be fervent in prayers, rejoice in hope, be patient, be generous, be steadfast in prayer and be hospitable. All these are what you do that helps to build your life as the good and godly shepherd and attracts your wife and children to you. And above all, it brings glory to Jesus Christ, our Saviour, who is the perfect example of how the husbandman is expected to live.

But for you to keep doing what is good to your wife and children regardless of their negative attitude, you must take the following steps. The first is that you must make a commitment and be determined in your heart to do what is good (Dan.1:8). The second step is for you to pray, daily, for the spirit of the love of Christ to gain root in your heart (Rom.5:5). This is because God is love and if you allow His love to dwell in you, it will empower you to overcome ungodly tendencies of bitterness, hatred, malice, bad will and unforgiveness. The third step is to have an attitude of gratitude. What this requires of you is to continue to celebrate your wife and children as gifts from the Lord. The more you learn to thank God for their lives, the more God continues to help to yield godly character.

Doing what is good is profitable. You must be an agent of righteous works in your sheepfold and be a blessing to your wife, children and in the market place of life (Gen.12:1-3, Matt.5:14).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome evil with good.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live above sin and self.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me a grateful heart so that I can always appreciate You for my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I do and will continue to do what is pure, lovely, and good in my dealings with my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
