THE ROLES OF THE HUSBANDMAN

Bible Texts: 1Pet.5:1-4, Acts 1:1, Heb.12:1-3, Matt.6:22, Mk.9:29, Lk.6:45, Jn.2:5, Jas.4:7, 2Cor.5:14, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4, Jn.3:16

Praise be unto God for making us to see the end of the first quarter of 2023 and bringing us to April, a new month. Indeed, this month of April shall be month of rejoicing for us in all areas of our lives. Amen and amen.

The perfect will of God for the husbandman is to lead well. God wants the husbandman to follow after the leadership example of Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. God wants the husbandman to be His true representative in and outside of his home. But for the husbandman to do the perfect will of God, he must understand his roles as the man, husband and father.

The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed. Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion, but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly, not as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock, and when the Christ Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away (1Pet.5:1-4)

From the Bible passage in 1^st Peter chapter 5 and verses 1 through to 4, the roles of the husbandman can be discovered.

The husbandman is to minister to his wife and children as unto the Lord. Shepherd the flock which is among you (1Pet.5:2). You are to serve the best interest of your wife and children before being served. This calls for sacrifice from you to them (Jn.3:16).

You are to mentor your wife and children to become all that God wants them to be, and you achieve this by investing your resources, time, money, skill, experience, knowledge, physical strength, in them. Serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly..(1Pet.5:3a).

Finally, you are to become a model for your wife and children after the nature of Jesus Christ. Not as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock ..(1Pet.5:3b).

You must understand that God has called you to lead your life, and the lives of your wife and children by the principles of His word and be successful. However, you can only become a success if you commit yourself to the pursuit of the roles God has given to you as the husbandman because that is the only way God can reward you as the man, husband and father.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with a fresh desire and zeal to execute my responsibilities.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of service to my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do Your perfect will as the man, husband and father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take personal responsibility to perform my roles, willingly and joyfully as I lead myself, wife and children because that is the only way I can please God and my sheep and be fit to be called the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
