BUILDING THE FOUNDATION OF SELF-DISCIPLINE (2)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Pet.1:13-16, Acts 1:1, Heb.12:1-3, Matt.6:22, Mk.9:29, Lk.6:45, Jn.2:5, Jas.4:7, 2Cor.5:14

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct , because it is written, be holy, for I am holy (1Pet.1:13-16).

Yesterday, we began this teaching series by establishing that the first step to laying the foundation of self discipline is for you to gird your mind because of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

Today, the next step for you is guard your conduct in righteousness. But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct (1Pet.1:15).

The Bible says that God who calls you to the ministry of the husbandhood is holy. It further says that you must be holy in all your conduct. What this implies is that you must do what is right according to the word of God and not cherry-picking. As the husbandman, your conduct is the true measure of your person.

In Matthew chapter 5, the word of God says this.

Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matt.5:14). Your existence as the husbandman is to bring glory to God and the way you prove that is by your good works. So, if you want to have a solid foundation as the husbandman, then your conduct in all holiness and righteousness must be your commitment.

For you to guard your conduct so that you do what is right in line with the Word of God, you must desire and pursue after holiness (Dan.1:8, Ps.42:1). And secondly, you allow the love of Christ to rein supreme in your heart so that it can influence how you conduct yourself in a manner that pleases God (Rom.5:5). Thirdly, you must pray for the continuous release of the spirit of holiness upon your life because holiness is a spiritual virtue and is available to anyone who asks for it in prayers (Rom.1:4, Matt.7:7).

You have a glorious destiny on earth. Your existence is to make a positive difference in the lives of your wife, children and in the marketplace. You are a trans-generational agent of blessing (Gen.12:2). Start laying a good foundation today so that you can build on it the precepts that will make you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with a fresh desire and zeal for holy living.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of holiness.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live a holy life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I lay the foundation of holiness and I live in holiness in all my conduct as I lead myself, wife and children and in the marketplace because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
