BUILDING THE FOUNDATION OF SELF-DISCIPLINE (1)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Pet.1:13-16, Acts 1:1, Heb.12:1-3, Matt.6:22, Mk.9:29, Lk.6:45, Jn.2:5, Jas.4:7, 2Cor.5:14

I have discovered that in the journey of success, it is good for someone to discipline you but it is much better for you to discipline yourself. And if the husbandman wants to succeed as the good and godly man, husband and father, he must discipline himself by himself to the end that he remains focused on his goal of becoming the good and godly husbandman.

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct , because it is written, be holy, for I am holy (1Pet.1:13-16).

In building the foundation of self-discipline as the husbandman and using the word of God in 1st Peter chapter 1 and verses 13 through 16, you must take the following steps.

The first step is for you to gird your mind. In verse 13, the Scriptures say, therefore, gird up the loins of your mind (1 Pet.1:13). Remember that your mind is the seat of your decision. Whatever you say or do or how you respond is a direct result of what you have stored in your mind. This is why the Bible tells us that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Lk.6:45). The way you gird your trouser so that it doesn’t fall from your waist, is the same way you must gird your mind. This means that you must examine what you allow into your mind by the word of God, and watch with all diligence the gateways (eyes and ears) to your mind by remaining focused on the goals that God has set before you as the good and godly husbandman.

In Matthew chapter 6 and verse 22, the Bible says that,

If thy eyes be single, thy whole body will be full of light (Matt.6:22).

You must not allow temporary gains to overtake you rather you must stay on track to your calling as the good and godly husbandman.

But for you to remain focused, you must submit your will to the authority of the word of God (Jas.4:7). Secondly, you must contend in prayers against the forces of distractions (Mk.9:29).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to filter the information that goes through my ears and eyes.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to remain focused on the assignment of being the good and godly husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to run the race of the husbandman with strength.

FAITH CONFESSION

I run this race of the ministry of the husbandman with focus and I submit myself to the perfect will of God in all things because that is the foundation I need to lay and build on as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
