LOOK UP!

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God (Col.3:1-3)

As the husbandman, where have you set your affection? Is it on things above or things on the earth? What occupies your mind? What and who have you chosen to believe?

The Scripture admonishes you and I to set our attention on things that are above because what is from above is better than what is on earth. This is very important for your leadership as the good and godly husbandman because as you lead yourself, wife and children, challenges would come to test where your focus is. It is where you look to that determines the worth of the answers you receive.

So, what is above and how would it help me to become the good and godly husbandman?

God is above.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth (Ps.121:1-2).

When you look up to God, you receive help that makes you to live a life well-pleasing as the good and godly husbandman. God is the only Person who can help you to do His perfect well as the good and godly man, husband and father. It is the Lord who giveth you the power both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Philp.2:13). Looking to the beer parlour, gambling or seeking comfort in the arm or lap of another woman cannot help you become the godly husbandman. Rather, it will take you farther away from the path of the ministry of the husbandman.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given to him (Jas.1:5).

When you look up, you receive wisdom from God. And the wisdom you receive from God empowers you to speak the right words and at the right time. The wisdom of God also provides you direction on the steps to take. It also empowers you to know and identify what is profitable and good from what is destructive and hurting. The wisdom of God helps you to make right decisions about your relationship with Him, your wife, children and in the market place. The Bible calls God’s wisdom the principal thing (Pro.4:7).

But how do I look up?

You look up to God by giving attention to the study, meditation and practice of the Word of God. No one has ever seen God physically. But through His word, you and I can understand His personality (Jn.1:1-3, Ps.1:1-3, 2Tim.2:15, Jn.5:39, Jas.1:22-25). Secondly, you look up by praying the Word of God in faith (Jas.1:6, Heb.11:2). Prayer brings the power of God to bear in your life thereby making you to function as the good and godly husbandman.

Looking to God through Jesus Christ is the assurance you need to function as the good and godly husbandman. Are you ready to look up?

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every form of distraction and keep my eyes focused on You.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me a heart to trust Your Word as I lead myself, wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to function as the good and godly husbandman by Your divine wisdom.

FAITH CONFESSION

I look up to God and I have received divine wisdom that empowers me to lead myself, wife and children in the way and admonition of the Lord because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
