MAINTAIN WATCHFULNESS AT ALL TIMES

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Mk.13:36-37, Am.6:1, 2Cor.5:17, Jn.3:3-4, Pro.4:23, Ezk.2:2, Pro.23:7, Matt.6:22, Hab.2:1, 1Pet.5:8

I have come to discover that it is very easy for the husbandman to fall into error. I have also observed that the call to the ministry of the husbandman demands consistent watchfulness in order for the husbandman to escape the traps of satan, sin and the world. Oswald Chambers, one of the father’s of faith, said and I quote, “Maintain a continual watchfulness so that nothing of which you would be ashamed arises in your life”.

In Mark Gospel chapter 13, Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, admonishes you and I to be watchful.

Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house cometh at even or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning. Lest coming suddenly he find sleeping. And what I say unto you I say to unto all, watch (Mk.13:35-37)

As the husbandman, you cannot afford to be careless with the words that come from your mouth to your wife and children. You cannot also be careless with just any thought that comes to your mind. In all things and in everything that you do, you must exercise watchfulness.

But how do I maintain watchfulness?

Guard your heart.

Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life (Pro.4:23)

As the husbandman, you must watch the information that you receive. This includes the books you read, the relationships you keep, the films you watch and the messages you listen to. The information you receive into your spirit man determines and influences the quality of the action you take. As a man thinks in his heart so is he (Pro.23:7). You cannot be greater than what you know and you cannot act better that what you know and have believed in your heart.

Engage the Person of the Holy Spirit by the weapon of prayer.

I will send the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, who will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things you need to know (Jn.14:26). The Person of the Holy Spirit has three important ministries to you. He teaches, reveals and guides. As you ask for His help and truthfully so in prayers, He will teach you what you need to know; He will reveal to you what is not obvious, helping you to discern right from wrong; and He will guide you in the way that you should go, think and act.

However, you must recognize that you need to have a quality relationship with God through the Person of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. You must be born again (Jn.3:3-5). If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away and behold all things are become new (2Cor.5:17).

As you walk in the fear and admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ, you become empowered by His Spirit to function profitably as the good and godly man, husband and father.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from spiritual complacency and careless living.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, lead me away from ungodly influences and associations.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a profitable watchman over my life, wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I stand upon my watch and I maintain continued watchfulness over what I read, hear and listen to so that the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart will be acceptable in the sight of God and gainful to my wife and children because that is what gives me value as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
