INSTRUMENT OF A FOOLISH HUSBAND

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Zech.11:15, Matt.7:26, Pro.15:21, 1Cor.3:19, Matt.12:33, Eph.5:25-28, 1Tim.5:7-8

In most professions or endeavours, there are instruments you can easily and quickly associate with. To the doctors, it is a stethoscope. To the pilot, it is the navigational compass. This is also true of the husbandman.

There are certain characters or attitudes a husband would display that tell if he is a wise husband or a foolish one. Jesus speaking said, ” By their fruits, you shall know them (Matt.12:33)”. So, what then are the instruments of a foolish husband?

Firstly, it is the instrument of uncontrolled appetite. Some husbands cannot control their appetite for food. When they are hungry, they become very angry. Some of them lose their temper and hurt their flock. So, if you are a husband and you become angry or bitter toward your wife because your meal was delayed, then you are a foolish husband.

Secondly, when you don’t have control over the words that come out of your mouth toward your flock, then you are a foolish husband. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your flock, you must learn to bridle your tongue, especially when you are offended. It is true that your wife would offend you. It is also true that your children would offend you. But it is how you respond to them that defines whether you are wise or foolish. If you react to everything that your flock does to you, you are a foolish husband.

Thirdly, you are a foolish husband when you become financially dependent on your wife, children, parents or family members. No modern trend or socialization can alter the truth of Scripture. The Bible says that, “He that doesn’t provide for his family, especially of his household, he is worse than an infidel (1Tim.5:7-8)”. The best way to describe who you are as a husband is to look at Jesus Christ and how He loved, cared, protected and provided for His bride, the church (Eph.5:25-28). So, if Jesus provided for all the needs of His flock, you have no excuse but to follow His example.

You must recognize that being the good and godly husband is not cheap talk. It is hard work. Therefore, be engaged in doing all that God has commanded you to do, because that is the gateway for you to become a wise husband and not a foolish one.

Hallelujah!
