Main Scriptures: Gen.2:15-17
More Scriptures: Mal.2:14, Eph.5:22, 1Pt.3:7
And the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. (Gen.2:15-17)
The main Scripture is summed up in the title for today’s devotional. It is manipuler avec soin. It is French and it means handle with care. If you have ever bought electronics, you will appreciate the import of this instruction that God gave to the husband, Adam. After God had invested so much to create a beautiful architectural masterpiece called the heaven and earth, He handed the earth over to the man. But He gave the custodian, Adam, clear instructions. He said to him, “Please, handle with utmost care”. Unfortunately, he disobeyed the instruction and bungled the asset and destroyed its value.
Now, this is the message for you. God has handed over His sheep and sheepfold to you-your wife and children and family. And He has also given to you clear instructions as regards what to and not do to them. If you mishandle His instructions, you may lose your access to your sheep. Your wife and children are precious in the sight of God, so you must see them in that light. God took His time to form your wife and children. He exercised diligent care and precision when He formed them. And He saw that everything that He has created was VERY GOOD (Gen.1:26). God did not give you a bad wife or children. He gave you a very good wife and wonderful children (Is.1:18-19). If there is anything bad about them, you are principally responsible for it. You cannot maltreat your wife and children and expect to reap their values and respect. Even if it seems you are enjoying them now, sometime in the future, they will disintegrate. But how do I handle my wife and children with care? Firstly, you must treat them with respect and honour. If you honour them, they will reciprocate and honour you in return. If you respect them, they will also respond in the same measure, because whatever a man sows that is what he will reap. Secondly, you must not abuse or think evil of them. The Bible says that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. If your heart is full of evil thoughts toward your wife and children your life will gravitate to be mean, ungodly, unkind and hurtful to them. And as you handle your flocks with utmost care, your life will continue to count positively today and in the future.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to be diligent in handling my wife and children.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to honour my wife and children as You would.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not to take Your grace for granted.
FAITH CONFESSION
I recommit to obey and do all of what God wants me in relation to how I treat with my wife and children because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
