Main Scriptures: Rom.13:10
More Scriptures: Col.3:19, Eph.5:25, Eph.5:33
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet, and whatever other command there may be, are summed in this one command. Love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore, LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW (Rom.13:10).
Some time ago, I tried to study the stories of great and successful people in ministry and in business. And I observed that they manifest common characteristics. And it occurred to me that the law or principles that have influenced their success are universal, whether they are Africans, Europeans or Asians. And this is why I want to share with you the law of love. The Scriptural laws of love if applied by any husband irrespective of age, colour or tribe will make him a good and godly husband. As the head of your family, the Bible has provided you a road map on how to love your wife and not be bitter against her. The principles of the love God commands you to extend to your sheep do not change (Mal.3:6). Your tithe, your participation in church activities, your sacrifice to the needy around you and the impressive perception that people, outside your wife and children, have about you, are not as important as loving your sheep.
The greatest law upon which all other laws rest is the law of love. And the law of love is for the husband-the head of the family and the pastor over the flock. There are so many teachings out there that are full of half truths. Wives are told to love their husbands. Wives are made to be the one who should pray and fast when there is a problem in the family fold. Wives are made to be the one to be more concerned about the survival of their families. It appears the law of love has become the function of the wives and not the husbands. Any wonder, husbands have become very irresponsible. In four instances, the Scripture tells us of the direct commandment to husband to love his wife. Eph.5:25, husbands love your wives….. Eph.5:28, so ought men to love their wives…… Eph.5:33 so love his wife even as himself…..Col.3:19, husbands, love your wives………… As the head of your family, you are to love your wife and not the other way round. The ways God wants you to express His love for your wife is found in 1Cor.13:4-8. Therefore, as the shepherd over your sheep and the ordained prophet over your flock, you must continue to love your wife as Christ has loved the church (Eph.5:25).
