GETTING TO KNOW YOUR SEED

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ephesians 6:4

More Scriptures: Colossians 3:21, Deuteronomy 6:7, Genesis 18:19

Let’s start this way. Do you know that a father is like a farmer with seeds in his hands to plant? Do you know that your children came forth as a result of the seeds you planted inside your wife’s womb? And do you also know that the harvest from that conjugal relationship you have with your wife is what you have as children? Now, as a farmer, do you watch your harvest rot away or wasted? Or do you gather your harvest and store them in a secure place, whilst you eat some? This the relationship you have with your children. If you behave like the foolish farmer, you will have rebellious children and eventually lose control of leading them. Have you wondered why you have lost control and influence over your children? As a father, you cannot understand what has gone wrong them. Well, the answer is simple. You do not understand your children. You do not understand their growth phases and changes. You are using old ways to handle new challenges. Your child is a seed from the Lord. A seed is designed to grow and produce fruits. The seed undergoes different stages before it reaches full maturity and begins to bear fruits. That is who your child is.

As a father, you must understand the stage that your child is in, otherwise you may provoke him or her and eventually lose her to the devil, the world and sin. The Scripture says, “Fathers provoke not your children to anger, lest they be DISCOURAGED (Colossians 3:21)”. This means your child has the capacity to be angry. A time comes in your leadership role as a father to your children when beating them will never solve any challenge but rather it would compound it for you. A time also comes when using insulting or degrading words on your children will take them farther away from you than you can ever imagine. Remember that your children are your bridge into your tomorrow. If you burn them today, you are sure that your future is not in view. However, for you to understand your child or children, you must plug your life to these keys. The first key is the key of engagement. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). You have to engage your child(ren) in healthy conversation. This will help you to appreciate their strength, fears, dreams, hopes and expectations. You must always make yourself available for your children and encourage them to ask you questions, however stupid they may be. When you engage your children, they will see you first as their teacher, mentor and guide. You will always get their first attention before anyone else. The second wisdom key is the key of intercession. Nothing helps you to know your children better like praying for them and nothing stirs up ignorance like spiritual slumber. Your children are gifts from God to you. Let them count for God and humanity POSITIVELY.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus and by Your Spirit, teach me how to lead my children faithfully.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me a heart of compassion, love and mercy for my children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, save me from foolishness and fill me with Your wisdom.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give myself to learning about my children from the WORD OF GOD and I do all those things that please them because that is what makes me the good and godly father in Jesus Name. Amen.
