TAKE THE FORM OF A SERVANT

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Philippians 2:5-8

More Scriptures: Philippians 2:9, Rom.12:11, Lk.12:37

A lot of the times as heads of our families, we struggle with the truth from the word of God that we are ordained servants-serving the interest of our sheep. We are at a loss between being the head and leader in our sheepfold and serving our sheep. This has put many husbands in confusion and not knowing exactly what do. But the truth of Scripture is that every godly husband is a shepherd, and every shepherd is sent to his sheep to serve them.

Now taking the form of a servant as the godly husband is both a choice and a willingness. You must choose the path of service because that is what defines your true worth as the godly husbandman. Looking at the Person of Jesus Christ, whose mind you have and who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband, you cannot but accept responsibility to serve your wife and children. So, when you serve your sheep like helping them out at home and in their tasks and responsibilities, you are not a fool neither are you weak. You are indeed the true servant of God.

Looking at Jesus Christ, you will understand the glorious place of service. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. But made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross. (Philippians 2:5-8). Jesus took the form of a servant. Even though He was the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, the One who has the power of life and death, He nevertheless did not consider His exalted position. He acted like a servant, serving the need of humanity-salvation, healing, answered prayers, deliverance, provision, hope, support and direction. At a time, He stooped to wash His disciples of feet. So, because you have the mind of Christ, you have the capacity to be like Jesus to your wife and children. Helping your wife in the kitchen, assisting her in laundry, giving a helping hand in bathing the children, sitting with your children to review their homework and so much more is a righteous deed.

What are the blessings of taking the form of a servant? The answer is found in Philippians chapter 2 verses 9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow ………….(Philp.2:9-11). God exalts you. God gives you a honourable name and He also gives you power, authority and influence. You must shine as light to other husbands and let your action be a reflection of Jesus Christ, who is the perfect model of the godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of human tradition and culture.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the spirit of pride and entitlement mentality.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me to serve my wife and children as You would joyfully and faithfully.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ and I am sent to my wife and children by God to serve them faithfully and delightsomely because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
