Do you know that your greatest need as the head of your family is knowing who you really are in Christ? It is called self-discovery. They day you comprehend who God says you are as the godly man, husband and father, that is the day you really take your rightful place in your life and sheepfold. And therefore, today’s teaching is very important. Who is the Godly husband? As simple as this question appears, many husbands do not even know who they are. Some husbands do not know the demands of a godly leader. And this ignorance has been responsible for the high incidences of marriage and relationship breakdown between husbands and their wives and children. This unhealthy relationship between the husband and his wife and children is not the will of God for the position of the husbandhood. The will of God for the husbandman is to enjoy his wife and children.
God wants you to be a positive influence on the lives of your sheep. God wants to manifest Himself to your wife and children through you. This is why I believe that the Holy Spirit wants to remind us of who are as godly husbands. But who is a godly husband? The answer is found in 1Timothy chapter 1 and verse 6 to 9. If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children, not accused of riot or unruly. For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God, not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre. But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate, holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers (1Tim.1:6-9).
From the above Scriptures, your identity as the godly man, husband and father derives its root from the character of the godly husbandman. The godly husband must be a husband of one wife. If you have extra women, you are not a godly husband. The godly husband must have faithful children. If your children are not faithful to God and to you and the world they live in, then you are not a godly husbandman. The godly husband must not be self-willed. To be self-willed means that the opinion of your wife and children and others do not matter. It means you are deaf to counsel and advice. Many husbands have crashed landed from grace to grass because they think they know too much and ignore the counsel of their wives or children, even though the counsel did not make any academic sense. A godly husband must not be too quick to be angry. There are husbands who are always on the edge. They get upset at will with their wives or children. They are always aggressive. This ungodly attitude has driven many wives and children far away from their husbands into the willing hands of ungodly relationships-drugs, armed robbery, fornication, adultery and many other vices.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to rediscover my true worth from Your word.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live my new personality as the godly husbandman to my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me grace to remain steadfast in my responsibilities as the head of the family.
FAITH CONFESSION
I reinvent myself from the word of God and I recommit my life to be the godly man, husband and father to my wife and children because that is what makes me the godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen
