Main Scriptures: Ps.1:1-6
More Scriptures: Gen.12:3, 1Cor.15:33, Pro.13:20
I have come to discover that as the head of the family, we can function well in our sheepfold if we follow the instructions in the Bible. As the man, husband and father, God has outlined what you need to know, what you must do and how to live your life as the godly husbandman. God has given you a guide on how to relate with your wife. He has also given you a guide on how to relate with your children. If you can search the Scriptures and obey the commandments, you will become the godly shepherd. Hence, one of the forces that influences you to do what God instructs you to do is the kind of relationship you keep. As the leader who desires and longs to please God by pleasing your wife and children, you must be very careful the kind of relationships that you keep. In fact, you must choose your friends wisely. This explains why the Scripture warns of three key positions you must daily examine and avoid, if you want to enjoy your sheep and deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ. Blessed is the man that WALKS NOT in the counsel of the ungodly nor STANDS IN the way of sinners nor SITS IN the seat of the scornful (Ps.1:1)……
A lot of the time, you act contrary to your good plans toward your wife and children not because you want to but because of the influence of your friends. So, I want you ask yourself these questions? Who are your friends? What kind of counsel do your friends give you concerning your wife and children? What are the lifestyles of your friends? Do your friends influence you to seek God when you have problems with your sheep? Do your friends help you to become a good and godly husband and father toward your wife and children? Can you see the life of Jesus Christ reflect in the conduct of your friends? Do your friends make you gravitate toward sin rather than godliness? As a husband and the head of your family, it is very important for you to consider your ways and weed out those friends who reduce you rather than increase you. In Haggai 1:5, the Scripture says, consider your ways. And as you take a firm decision to identify with friends that will make you to love your sheep as Christ would, you will enjoy the peace of God that man cannot give to you. This kind of peace is two-way, toward God and your wife and children. And this kind of peace impacts on your health positively. You also become an example to other husbands, who will want to emulate your good and godly life. In you shall all the families of the earth be blessed (Gen.12:3). Remember that your friends will either make you or destroy you. Choose your friends wisely. That is your heritage as the good and godly husband.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the Spirit of boldness to depart from ungodly friends.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to refuse ungodly and devilish counsel.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, order my steps to friends and relationships that would make me a good and godly man, husband and father.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am born of God and have His mind working in me so, I will not walk, sit and stand with ungodly relationships but walk with the wise because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
