Bible Texts: Jn.1: 45-46, Philp.3:13-14, Rom.12:21, Deut.8:7
Philip found Nathaniel and told him, “we have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote-Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph”. “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathaniel asked. “Come and see”, said Philip. (Jn.1:45-46).
The Nathaniel’s experience is an interesting one. Nathaniel had heard about Jesus Christ and the works that He did. But when Philip had a chat with him, he exclaimed, “Can anything good from there?” But Philip answered and said to him, “come and see”.
Perhaps, as the good and godly husbandman, you have also asked the same question Nathaniel asked Philip. You may have asked if any good can come out of your wife or children. You asked this question because everything around your wife and children does not look good. And because of this question which cast doubts on the potentials of your wife and children, you are unable to become all that God wants you to be to them-the good and godly man, husband and father.
But see what the Scriptures say about how you can overcome this veil. Forgetting the former things, I press towards the mark……(Philip.3:13-14). No matter the negative stories you may have heard or being told or experienced firsthand about your wife and children, you must rise above those negatives. You must overcome the negatives with positives. Be not overcome with evil but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21). Jesus Christ, inspite of our failings, weakness and repeated unfaithfulness has never given up on you and I. He has never asked if anything good come from us. Rather, Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, continues to advocate for us before God in heaven. So, if you have His nature in you, then you must never ask the Nathaniel’s question concerning your wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to rise above every negative reports about my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, shed Your love richly in my heart.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with Your love that overcomes the faults of my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I rise above the weakness, failings and inadequacies of my wife and children and extend the love of God to them because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
