Bible Texts: Matt.27:21-22, 1Cor.13:4-7, Eph.6:4, Ps.23:1-2, Matt.11:29, Mk.9:29, Heb.11:33
I was in church few weeks ago when the Pastor referenced this passage of the Bible in his teaching. The topic had no connection to the husbandman but my Teacher, the Person of the Holy Spirit, began to teach me this verse of Scripture and connecting it to the husbandman. He said and I quote, “many husbandmen are like the crowd that screamed that Jesus must be crucified. These husbands want their sheep crucified”.
Let Jesus be crucified was the cry of the people. They wanted Jesus killed for no reason. They wanted Jesus condemned wrongly. And sadly, the judge who sat over the case agreed with the noises of the people. You are like that judge and the noises from your family members, friends, and relations, suggestions from satan and sin and the pressure from the world are like that crowd. So would you want to crucify your wife and children because of the noises from your crowd?
God does not want you to crucify your wife and children. God doesn’t want you to condemn your sheep to physical, emotional or mental death because of their offences. God doesn’t want you to join other people to condemn your sheep. God wants you to protect your wife and children from the assaults, abuses and condemnation of the crowd. Remember the story of Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. When he discovered that Mary was pregnant with a child, he was worried. Joseph did not call the world to hear about his wife’s pregnancy which he did not initiate. He allowed God by His Spirit to influence his decision. He protected Mary, his wife. That is what God wants from you as the good and godly man, husband and father. God wants you to look to Him for answers to the questions you may be asking yourself about your wife and children. The Bible says, learn of me, my yoke is light (Matt.11:29). When you go to Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, He teaches you the best way to love your sheep inspite of their weaknesses, failures, limitations, errors, and offences.
But how do I insulate myself from the negative influences of satan, sin and the world? Firstly, you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by accepting Him as your Lord and personal saviour. Ye must be born again……(Jn.3:7).. That I may know Him……(Philp.3:10). Secondly, you must walk and work with the Person of the Holy Spirit to speak to your inner man on what to do and how to provide godly leadership for your wife and children. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth……(Jn.16:13). The Person of the Holy Spirit is your best companion who will help you make godly decisions. Finally, engage the power of prayer with fasting (Mk.9:29).
Stay on the gaze of God’s word and instructions. Remain focused on your task as the good and godly leader to your wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for leading my wife and children by the rudiments of this world.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes as You teach me your ways.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to act according to Your commandments and not according to the rules of man, culture or religion.
FAITH CONFESSION
I live and act by the word of Jesus Christ for the good of my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
