Bible Texts: 1Cor.13:4-8, Ps.12:6, 2Pet.1:7, Jas.3:7, 1Pet.3:7-9, Eph.5:25-27, Col.3:7-9, Matt.6:22, Jn.15:5, Jas.3:7, Ps.12”6, Jn.15:5
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always helpful and endures through every circumstance (1Cor.13:4-8)
Yesterday, we considered patient as a critical gear point for every husbandman to engage. It is a virtue you and I must have towards our sheep. Today, let us engage another banner of love and that is sacrifice and selflessness towards your wife.
The Bible says that rather than engage in envy, you should engage sacrifice and be selfless in your relationship with your sheep. It is the nature of the devil to be envious of what other people have or their success. At the root of all evil is envy. It has been proven that at the root of most spousal murders is envy and jealousy. As the godly husbandman, you must not be envious of what your wife earns or the high office she occupies. You must also not be envious of your wife if she is the one who seems to succeed in business and career. Rather than envy your wife, you are to encourage her to succeed and motivate her to attain great heights, while allowing her progress to challenge you positively.
I remembered when I started this faith walk as a young believer. I was in courtship with my wife then. Every time I had a challenge and discussed with her, she gave me answers from the Bible. Specifically, there was a time I couldn’t sleep at night for some days. I told her and she prayed with me and said, “the Lord giveth his beloveth sleep”. I asked if what she said was in the Bible and she answered, “yes”. I observed that she always quoted the Bible to address every challenge I shared with her. I was uncomfortable for a while but saw her insight into the word of God as a challenge. So I decided to also search the Bible and other anointed materials for truth, personally. And as I stayed on, I discovered that my faith began to grow. I had said to myself that, “if I must lead, I must justify my leadership by reading”. Today, I can humbly say that I am in charge of my family kingdom, spiritually. Envy blocks your access to growth and learning. It shuts the door of grace against you. It breeds bitterness, which leads to family disintegration.
Therefore, for you to live a selfless life towards your wife and children, you must consider them above yourself. This requires you to always put your family ahead of you. Jesus Christ came to serve rather than being served. He is focused on the sheep and not on Himself. Always remember that you are at the driver’s seat. You determine how far and how well your passengers (wife and children) would end up in life. Be selfless and not selfish and envious.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to engage my spirit, soul and body to live a sacrificial and selfless life towards my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of envy, jealousy and bitterness.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with Your love and teach me how to always extend same to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I engage God’s word to live a selfless life and be a supporter of my wife’s and childrens’ progress because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
