Praise God! I welcome you to the month of March, the third month in the year 2023. I pray that all that God has for you shall be delivered to you speedily in Jesus name. Amen.
Now what does it take for the husbandman to succeed as the good and godly man, husband and father? What does God expect from the husbandman as he leads his life, wife and children? Does the husbandman become good and godly shepherd by chance or by hardwork? These are questions you and I must ask today as husbandmen in order to prepare for the journey of leading ourselves, wife and children in the new month and beyond.
This is what the Scripture says.
Talk is cheap, like day dreams and other useless activities. Fear God instead (Pro.5:7) NLT
Do you realize that it requires diligence and commitment from you if you must function maximally as the good and godly husbandman? The truth is that being the husbandman is a calling and becoming the good and godly husbandman is hard work. It is not cheap. It is a calling that requires greater responsibilities. It is a calling that demands from you, greater commitments. It is a calling to a life of sacrifice and inconvenience. In fact, there is no future for a lazy husbandman. This is why today’s Scripture in Proverbs chapter 5 and verse 7 from the New Living Translation, is very important for you to meditate on. For you to be called the good and godly husbandman requires much more than the testosterone between your legs or the size of your body, the fluency of your language or the money in your bank account. It is a call unto higher life (Matt.5:14-16).
Now, these are some of the covenant demands of your office and you have to examine yourself to see if you are walking in them.
Husbands love your wife as Christ has loved the Church and gave Himself (Eph.5:25). It is not cheap talk for the husbandman to love his wife as captured in 1st Corinthians chapter 13 and from verses 4 through to 8. Being the husbandman requires to you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it. It is hardwork to love your wife and it pleases God if you demonstrate the love of Christ towards her. So, list those requirements of God-kind of love in 1Cor.13:1-7 and begin to act it out sincerely and you will realize it is not cheap talk.
Fathers nurture thy children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). It takes the grace of God for the husbandman to balance his busy schedule with nurturing his children in the way and admonition of the Lord. That is helping them to love the Lord with the whole of their hearts, might and strength. You require enormous courage and hardwork just like Joshua had in Joshua chapter 24 and verse 15. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Jos.24:15).
Look at another commitment for the husbandman. The man who can’t provide for his household is worse than an unbeliever (1Tim.5:8). It is your singular responsibility to provide for yourself and family. You have to soil your minds and hands and your convenience to earn a living and serve yourself, your wife and children with the fruits of your labour. Your wife is not the shepherd of the family-fold. You are the shepherd and the good one at that. So, you must rise up to your covenant responsibilities.
So, the question is, have you lived up to the demands above? Can you say you are the good and godly shepherd? Please answer!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live up to the demands of my office as the husbandman.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a worthy example of the good and godly husbandman to my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, prosper my headship and make me a successful leader.
FAITH CONFESSION
I work diligently to fulfill the demands of my calling as the husbandman to God, my wife, children and in the market place because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
