Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, you and I understood that the love of Christ is the greatest weapon we have to overcome the tendencies of satan, sin and the world. And when we walk in the love of Christ, we become like Him in thought, conduct and response as we lead ourselves, wife and children. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that the love of Christ shall be rooted firmly on an increasing measure in your heart. Amen.
Today, let us consider another important commitment you and I must make as we walk the journey of becoming the good and godly man, husband and father. It is the commitment to be a practical example of the good and godly husbandman, after the order of Jesus Christ.
See what the Scripture says about it.
For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us, for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you. Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought, but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you. Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an example unto to follow us (2Thess.3:7-9).
When you study the above Bible passage, you will notice that the Apostle Paul, though powerful, emphasized the importance of being a good example because that is the only way others can follow them and their teachings. That is what God expects from you.
As the husbandman, God wants your wife and children to follow you. God wants them to obey and serve you, joyfully. But you must become the good and godly example that they want to follow. Your life must not be disorderly. You must not be looking for free things instead of working diligently with your mind and hands. You must not be spiritually lazy, not praying, studying and teaching the words of Jesus Christ to them. You must not take what is not yours or live a life of deceit. None of these lifestyles can ever make your life attractive to your wife and children to want to follow.
Therefore, you have the personal responsibility to become the good and godly example that your wife and children will want to follow by undertaking these tasks.
The first task you have is to consider your ways. Consider your ways…….(Hag.1:7). You must conduct daily evaluation of yourself-your thoughts, actions, decisions and responses and place it side by side the word of God. The second task is to renew your mind by the word of God. And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Rom.12:2).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being an ungodly example.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, renew my mind and transform my life to be like Jesus Christ.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a living example of Your divine nature, through and through.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ and by it I have the nature of Christ at work in me, making me the good and godly example to my wife, children and in the marketplace because that is my heritage as the husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
