YOU MUST BEGAN BOTH TO TEACH AND DO

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Matt.23:1-4, Lk.12:1, 1Tim.4:2, Lk.13:15, Gal.4:19, Acts 1:1, Matt.5:14-16, 1Pet.3:7-9, 1Cor.15:33, Gen.2:18, Eph.6:4

I recently took up a volunteer work where I mentor young boys along the lines of becoming responsible men. But I always have a challenge and that is that most times their fathers do not reflect who the good and godly husbandman should be. Their fathers tell them “do what I say and not what I do”. It is the distortion of character that I want to correct by today’s teaching, even as Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, taught in that direction

Then spake Jesus to the multitude and to his disciples, saying the scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and previous to be borne and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with them with one of their fingers (Matt.23:1-4)

Many times, the husbandman complains about his wife and children. He gets upset that his wife and children do not obey him. But the question to ask is this. Does he practice what he tells them to do? Is he like the Pharisee that puts pressure and expects so much but will not help them bear the burden?

As the good and godly husbandman, it is good for you to make demands from your wife and children but it is much more important to support and help them achieve the tasks you have assigned them.

For instance, she cooks for you and the family, does your laundry, takes care of the children, cleans the house and maintains your home, yet you do not think you should ask her how her day went nor say a word of appreciation to her. You must understand that your wife is not your slave. She is not a piece of furniture. She is God’s creation and a gift to you (Gen.2:18, 1Pet.3:7-9). Your child(ren) is struggling with his or her emotions, peer pressure and from physical challenges. In all of these inadequacies, you did not pray with and for them. You did not speak words of hope and encouragement (Gal.4:19, Lk.18:1). Rather, what comes out of your mouth is condemnation and abuse. That is not the approach to making them excel.

As the husbandman who is working to become good and godly, you must not be like the Pharisee. You must understand that what enthrones you in the lives of your wife and children is if they see you practice what you teach (Acts 1:1). In Acts chapter 1, the Word of God says this. ….of all that Jesus began both to do and teach (Acts.1:1). Jesus Christ is your perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. He is not like the Pharisees. He practiced what He taught and that is the life God wants you to live (Matt.5:14-16).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me and have mercy upon me for living a double life
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be the good and godly example in thoughts, words and conduct.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be faithful and be a burden bearer.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ and I am empowered to be like Him in thoughts, words and conduct because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
