THE LAW OF SERVICE

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Eph.5:25-29, Eph.6:4, Col.3:19, Deut.6:7, 1Tim.3:2,4, Matt.5:14-16, Is.61:9, 2Tim.2:6, 1Cor.13:4-8, 1Tim.5:8

In the past four days, the Person of the Holy Spirit has helped us to understand the content of the law of the husbandman. Today, let us consider the 5th law.

The fifth law of the husbandman is the law of service and the service is broken down into two. The first is your service to your wife and the second is your service to your children.

Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church (Eph.5:25-29)

The law commands you to love your wife not as the world loves but as Christ loves. And how did Christ love the church? He loves the church sacrificially. He gives His best, forgives easily, doesn’t keep records of wrongs, always willing to help and support, provides and protects, always patient and kind and always putting the interests of the church in front of Him (1Cor.13:4-8)

And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4)

This law commands you to serve your children and it is very clear on who is responsible to train and nurture the children in the way of the Lord because it is the way of the Lord that makes your children to be the seeds that the Lord has blessed (Is.61:9). It says fathers and not mothers. So, you are breaking the law when you handover the responsibility of training, mentoring, guiding and nurturing your children to your wife, pastors or teachers.

Why is the law of service important to the husbandman?

Your obedience to the commandments of the law of service is a proof that you are fulfilling the calling of the ministry of the husbandman. It also makes you an example of Jesus Christ as a husband and father, and what He would have done if He were physically here on earth to lead your wife and children (Matt.5:14-16). Finally, you become the first partaker of the blessings that come from your wife and children (2Tim.2:6).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to love my wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to train and nurture my children in the ways and admonition of the Lord.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to keep obeying all the laws of the husbandman, diligently and delightfully.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take delight in obeying all the laws of the husbandman and I receive help from God to keep doing all that the law commands me to do because I want to become the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
