PRAYING FOR YOURSELF AS THE FATHER (3)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Eph.6:4, Gen.18:19, Deut.6:7-8, Pro.4:7, Pro.19:18, 1Tim.3:4, Mk.9:29, Jas.1:5, Ps.112:2-3, Num.6:22-23, Is.61:9, Ps.127:3

In the past two days, we have been exploring the prayer dimensions for the husbandman and how he can be useful to God, himself, his wife and children and in the marketplace.

I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that you shall be a fruitful vine as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.

Today, let us consider the last prayer focus for the husbandman. It is praying for himself as the father.

As the father, your relationship is with your children.

And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4)

The Word of God in Ephesians chapter 6 and verse 4 is clear on who must take responsibility to bring up the children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. It says you are responsible. Hence you must take up personal responsibility for the lives of your children. You must take ownership to train, nurture and invest in their spiritual, emotional, mental and physical growth, development and establishment. These responsibilities are what make your children good and godly seeds.

As the father, you hold the first right over your children. You are also their source of strength, motivation, inspiration, direction, protection, leadership, influence and righteous living (Deut.6:7-8). Your children are the link between your today and your tomorrow. They are your earthly ambassadors, representing you and what you stand for. Your children are gifts from God. They are not a burden to you but a blessing. God gave them to you to demonstrate His fatherhood nature. God wants your children to experience the father’s love which God has given unto us through Jesus Christ. God wants you to grow in leadership skills as you lead your children. This is how precious your children are to God, and He has commanded you to place a high value on them (Ps.127:3, Ps.112:2-3).

But for you to be the good and godly father, you must pray for yourself so that you can receive power from on high to be able to fulfill your covenant responsibilities towards them (Lk.10:19, Philp.2:13, Gal.4:19). You pray to God to give you wisdom to lead them. You pray to God to give you the courage to correct and admonish them. You pray to God to give you understanding to appreciate their fears, concerns and expectations. You pray to God to give you knowledge so that you can teach them the ways and truth of God’s word. You pray for them so that the life of Christ will be formed in them (Gal.4:19). What a privilege to be the father.

God wants you to be intentional about being the father, this is why praying for yourself as the father is important. Therefore, you must pray without ceasing because there is power in prayers. Hallelujah!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, show me in Your word Your perfect will for my life as the father and teach me how to function as the father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, let the truth of Your word for my life as the father dwell richly in my heart.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live a productive life as the father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am made in the image and likeness of God and I take responsibility to seek fellowship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ and to always do His perfect will as the father because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
