Bible Texts: 1Jn.5:1-3, Jas.1:22, Rom.5:5, Heb.11:6, Rom.9:16, 1Sam.2:9, Jn.3:16, Philp.2:13, Ps.51:10, Rom.12:21, Philp.2:5, Ps.19:14, Eph.2:25-29
A common struggle the husbandman has is how to love his wife as Christ has loved and given Himself to the Church. And it is this challenge that is responsible for the disharmony in the home and the relationship the husbandman has with his wife and by extension his children.
God wants you to bear the fruits of the love of Christ. God wants you to love your wife as Jesus Christ has loved His bride (the church) because it is a proof that you love God and you obey all His commandments (Eph.5:22, Jas.1:22).
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments (1Jn.5:1-3)
It is true that loving your wife and children comes with a cost. It requires a lot of sacrifices which is worthy because it is a commandment from God (1Cor.13:1-8). When you make love happen, you have shown to your wife and by extension your children that you are a Christ.
But how do I love and keep loving my wife as Christ has commanded?
You must continue to pray for the Spirit of the love of Christ to be shed abundantly in your heart.
And hope maketh not ashamed because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Rom.5:5)
Until the love of Christ is spread abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost, you will be unable to give genuine love to them. This is because you cannot give what you don’t have. But if the love of Christ is firmly planted in your heart, the Person of the Holy Ghost empowers you to make that love happen for your wife and children as you lead them.
Secondly, you must walk by faith and not by sight.
Without faith it is impossible to please God…(Heb.11:6)
Without faith in God and His word, you will not be able to extend His kind of love to your wife and children. Faith in God and His word enables you to demonstrate all the virtues of the love of Christ joyfully, even when your wife and children do not deserve it. Faith empowers you to see beyond the limitations, failures, weaknesses and mistakes of your wife and children.
Loving your wife and children as Christ has loved the Church is profitable to you (Eph.5:28, 2Tim.2:6).
Make the love of Christ happen. Hallelujah!
