EXERCISE GODLY AUTHORITY IN CHRIST (1)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Mk.1:21-22, Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1, Lev.6:9, Lk.10:19, Jn.3:5-7, 2Cor.5:19, Ps.24:1-2, Ps.1-1-3, Rom.5:5, Jn.3:16

Praise be unto Jesus Christ our Saviour! Now that you have rediscovered who you are in Christ as the good and godly husbandman, what does this discovery empower you to do?

And they went into Capernaum and straightaway on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at his doctrine, for he taught them as one that had authority and not as the scribes (Mk.1:21-22)

The Scripture in Mark Chapter 1 and verses 21 to 22 says that your rediscovery empowers you to have godly authority. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman is a man of authority. He taught the people with power and deep knowledge. He owned His role as Christ and was in charge of the affairs of His calling while on earth. He understood the reasons why He came to earth. He sat with lawyers, philosophers and teachers to learn, and every He went, He did good and was triumphant.

That is who you are and called by God to be. You are a man of authority and God wants you to exercise good and godly authority as you lead yourself, your wife and children.

Now what does it mean to exercise good and godly authority?

And Jesus said unto them, come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets and followed him (Mk.1:18)

It means that you have the capability to make right decisions and act rightly in line with word of God. As the husbandman, molesting your wife and children or breathing down their necks is not a sign of authority. It is called bullying. Screaming and forcing your ways down their throats even when it is not consistent with the word of God is not authority but selfishness. Exercising your physical strength to beat up your wife is not authority but molestation. Abusing your wife and children and destroying their self-esteem is not authority but wickedness. Denying them your goodwill because they have offended you is not a show of authority but foolishness on your part.

The authority God wants you to exercise as the head is to lead your life and the lives of your wife and children in the ways and admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, you must seek to have the God-kind of influence that will make them follow you because that is the proof of your good and godly authority in Christ Jesus.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for the misplaced use of the authority in my life as the man, husband and father.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to exercise authority and power in Your love and mercy.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live a life of humility and service.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have authority and I exercise it in godliness, mercy and the love of Christ because that is what makes me the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
