Bible Texts: Mark 3:23-27, Gen.4:2, Eph.2:2, Jn.10:10, 1Sam.17:20, 1Chro.19:9, Eph.6:25, Eph.6:4, 1Cor.13:4-7, Num.6:22-24, Gen.2:14-15
Who is the shepherd and what makes the shepherd good and godly?
The shepherd is the leader, teacher, guide, protector, provider and inspiration. What makes the shepherd good and godly is when he fulfills the demands of the good shepherd (Jn.10:1-13). The people the shepherd is committed to shepherd are the sheep, and the setting is the sheepfold.
Now, taking the family setting, the husbandman is the shepherd, his wife and children are his sheep and the family is the sheepfold. The perfect will of God for the husbandman is for the husbandman to be good and godly shepherd. God wants you to lead your wife and children forward, provide for them, protect them from satan, sin and the world, inspire them to become all that God has created them to be, motivate them to live God’s best on earth and love them with the love of Christ.
God wants you to be accountable to your sheep because He will hold you accountable for what you did and did not do with them. This is why you must do all that you can to ensure that your sheep and sheepfold are intact. You must bind your sheep together with the love of Christ.
The words of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly shepherd, in Mark Gospel chapter 3 must be your anchor to take your position as the good and godly shepherd.
And he called them unto him and said unto them in parables, how can satan cast out satan? And if a KINGDOM be divided against itself, that KINGDOM cannot stand. And if a HOUSE be divided against itself, that HOUSE cannot stand. And if satan rises up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. NO MAN CAN ENTER INTO A STRONG MAN’S HOUSE, AND SPOIL HIS GOODS, EXCEPT HE WILL FIRST BIND THE STRONG MAN, AND THEN HE WILL SPOIL HIS HOUSE (Mk.3:23-27)
As the good shepherd, you must keep and secure your wife and children from the influences of the devil, sin and the world. God has entrusted your wife and children into your care. You must keep the gate of your sheep and sheepfold secured (Ps.23:4).
Hallelujah!
