Loving your wife as Christ loves the church, which includes you, is service to your wife, and it is honourable and pleasing to Jesus Christ. God wants you to love your wife, not as the world loves, but as Christ loves. But how did Jesus Christ love the church?
Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself, a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church (Eph.5:25-29)
Jesus loves the church sacrificially. He gives His best and forgives easily. Jesus Christ doesn’t keep records of wrongs. He is always willing to help and support. Jesus Christ provides and protects. He is patient and kind. Jesus Christ puts the interests of the church in front of Him, always (1Cor.13:4-8)
Why must I love my wife the same way Christ loves the Church?
Loving your wife in the same way Jesus Christ loves the church, which includes you and I, is proof that you are fulfilling the calling of the ministry of the husbandman. It also makes you an example of Jesus Christ, whom your wife has read in the Bible (Matt.5:14-16). You also become the first partaker of the blessings that come from the love you have shown to your wife (Eph.5:28, 2Tim.2:6).
Therefore, loving your wife as Christ loves the Church, advances the kingdom of God on earth and is beneficial to you.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to love my wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to teach, guide and instruct my wife in the ways and admonition of the Lord.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to keep obeying all the laws of the husbandman, diligently and delightfully.
FAITH CONFESSION
I take delight in obeying all the laws of the husbandman and I receive help from God to keep doing all that the law commands me to do because I want to become the good and godly man, husband and father in Jesus name. Amen.
