DAY 15 of FASTING AND PRAYER
Bible Texts: Eph.5:25-27, Col.3:19, Rom.5:5, 2Cor.5:17, 1Cor.13:4-8, Gal.4:19, Philp.2:13, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29, Matt.7:7, Eph.6:12-18, Rev.12:10-11
Yesterday, we began the journey of discovering who we are in Christ as husbandmen and how prayer can empower the husbandman to flourish as a good and godly man.
Today, let us look to the Word of God to discover how praying for yourself as the husband empowers you to become the good and godly husband.
As the husband, your covenant responsibilities are to your wife whom God has given to you (Gen.2:18-25, Pro.19:14). And the Bible has summed up your covenant commitments as a husband in one word. Love your wife!
Husbands, love thy wife as Christ has loved the church and gave himself for it (Eph.5:25)
Jesus Christ is the Bridegroom, and He is your best model as the husband. The Word of God says that you should love your wife, and Christ has loved the church. It is not an admonition but a command because it is the only way you can prove that you are like Jesus Christ, the Husband of the church, to your wife. God commands you to love your wife, not as the world loves but as Jesus Christ loves. Jesus Christ has set the love template you must adopt in your relationship with your wife. The evidence of Christ’s love to His bride (the church) is truthfulness, selfless commitment, sacrifice, provision, protection, guidance, purity and faithfulness. Jesus Christ also gives hope to the bride, patient with the church and endures the failures and disappointments of the church. His love is not transactional, selfish and conditional (1Cor.13:4-9).
But you must recognize that loving your wife as Christ has loved the church will be difficult without the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit. This is why you must engage the weapon of prayer so you can be empowered to become the good and godly husband (Jn.15:5, Rom.5:5).
The prayer altar empowers you with the Spirit of love, so you can manifest the virtues of love to your wife as contained in 1st Corinthians chapter 13 and verses 4 to 8. You will also be empowered to pray for your wife to attain the fullness of God’s perfect plans and purposes for her life (Philp.2:13, Gal.4:19).
There is an invisible war against the relationship between the husband and his wife. Principalities, powers and rulers of darkness in high places are waging constant war to destroy the partnership between the husband and his wife in order to destroy the heritage of their children (Mal.2:13-14, Eph.6:12-18). You must not give satan, sin and the world any foothold in your relationship with your wife. You must be renewed by the Spirit of love through the weapon of prayer to remain more than a conqueror.
Hallelujah!
