THINK ON THESE THINGS

Finally, brethren, whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be anything virtue and if there is anything PRAISEWORTHY, MEDITATE on these things (Philp.4:8)

The Word of God admonishes you to always meditate on truth, nobility, purity, and everything that will bring God good report. This means that you must always test your conduct in the open and in the secret, the actions you want to take towards your wife and your children, by asking yourself if what you want to do is the truth, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report.

As the husbandman, you cannot think on the things that are true, pure, noble, just, lovely, and of good report if you don’t have the mind of Christ. This is because the mind of Christ means you have the Spirit of Christ in you through new birth in Christ and continuous study of the Word of God (Jn.1:1-8, Jn.3:3-8, Jn.5:39, 2Tim.2:15).

As the good and godly husbandman, you must not allow your life to be ruled by the principles and rudiments of this world. You must never allow your decisions, actions, and conduct to be influenced by the world’s system, but by the Word of God.

You must always take a moment each day to consider and think about what the Word of God says about your covenant responsibilities as the man, husband and father. If you allow the Word of God to dominate your thought life, it will influence your outward conduct greatly, making you conduct your life according to the truth of God’s Word.

As the husbandman, God wants you to be like Jesus Christ by thinking on what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely and of good report because these virtues are proofs of the good and godly husbandman.

So, when next you want to act towards or respond to your wife and your children, take a step back and ask these questions: Are my actions and responses true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report? If yes, go ahead; if not, don’t.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to hold unto what is always right as the godly man, husband and father.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, strengthen my inner man to refuse to make wrong decisions and actions against my wife, my children, and society.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to have self-control over my will, emotions and thought.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and I have the mind of Christ to think and meditate only on what is true, pure, lovely, noble, and of good report, because that is what builds me up into becoming the good and godly man, husband, and father, in Jesus name. Amen.
