PURSUE THESE VIRTUES

Bible Texts: Philp.4:6-8, Jn.15:5, Jos.1:6-8, 3Jn.1:2Ps.1:1-3, 2Tim.2:15, Dan.1:8, Ps.51:10, Matt.5:14-16, Rom.15:14, Rom.6:1, 2Cor.5:17

As the husbandman, God wants you to pursue good and godly virtues because that is what makes you the good and godly man, husband, and father. Now, what are the virtues God wants you to have and manifest?

Finally, brethren, whatever things are TRUE, whatever things are NOBLE, whatever things are JUST, whatever things are PURE, whatever things are LOVELY, whatever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be anything virtue and if there is anything PRAISEWORTHY, MEDITATE on these things (Philp.4:8)

As the husbandman, you must continue to think about what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report as you relate with your wife and your children. You must test your thoughts against the benchmarks God has set for you in Philippians chapter four (4) and verse eight (8).  

But how powerful are my thoughts? Jesus says that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. This means that your actions and conduct are influenced by what you think and meditate upon. If you think and meditate on good and godly thoughts, it will lead to peace and joy. But if you think and meditate on ungodly thoughts, it will result in chaos, fighting, bitterness, unforgiveness, malice, and so much unhappiness and tension.

The Word of God is what must guide your daily decisions towards your life as the man, husband and father, and towards your wife and your children. This is because the Word of God gives you the perfect picture of Jesus Christ, the good and godly husbandman. It is the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn.5:39). Therefore, keep studying the Word of God, keep working with the Person of the Holy Spirit to gain insight from the Word and keep engaging the weapon of prayer, fasting and meditation to receive the power to think as Christ would (Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19).

God has great plans for you. He wants you to represent Him profitably in your home and in the marketplace as the good and godly man, husband and father. God wants you to prosper as the husbandman. But you must guard your hearts with all diligence by thinking on the truth of God’s word because that is how you can make good and godly decisions as the good and godly husbandman and grow unto maturity.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to hold unto what is always right as the godly man, husband and father.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, strengthen my inner man to refuse to take wrong decisions and actions against my wife and children and the society.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to have self-control over my will, emotions and thought.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, and I have the mind of Christ to think and meditate on only what is true, pure, lovely, noble, and of good report because that is what builds me up into becoming the good and godly man, husband, and father in Jesus name. Amen.
