PRIVILEGE AND RESPONSIBILITY

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Gen.2:15-18, Matt.5:14-16, Is.40:11, Jn.10:14, Col.3:19, Heb.13:20, Eph.5:25, 1Tim.3:1-4, 1Tim.5:8, Eph.6:4, Ps.23:1, Gal.4:19, Rom.12:21, Pro.13:22

Today’s teaching is to remind you that being the shepherd over God’s sheep (your wife and your children) is both a privilege and a responsibility. It is a privilege because it is the favour of God on your life to lead them. It is also a responsibility because God wants you to do as He has commanded in His Word.

What then are my covenant responsibilities as the good and godly husbandman?

God wants you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it (Eph.5:25, Jn.10:10, Col.3:19, 1Tim.3:2).

God also wants you to train, nurture, and motivate your children in the way and counsel of godliness and righteousness (Deut.6:6-9, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.3:4).

God wants you to protect your wife and children from the assault of satan, sin, and the world (Jn.10:29). God wants you to provide for their spiritual, material, emotional, physical and financial needs (1Tim.5:8, Ps.23:1).

God wants you to teach them His word and be the example of the word (Matt.5:14-16, 2Tim.2:24).

God wants you to build a godly inheritance for them (Pro.13:22).

When you honour the privilege that comes with the office of the husbandman, and you take up the responsibilities attached to the office faithfully and committedly, you enjoy these blessings.

You develop quickly into a mature man, husband and father. You move very quickly from behaving like a child to behaving like a son. You become spiritually awake, seeking to know more from the Word of God about how to lead your life, how to lead your wife, your children, and the wisdom to remain steadfast, doing the perfect will of God.

Therefore, you must not abuse the privilege of the leadership position you occupy in your home, and you must be responsible as the husbandman, fulfilling your covenant responsibilities as the man, husband and father. That is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

Hallelujah!
