For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him (Gen.18:19)
The Scripture says that God testified of the husbandman, Abraham, that he will command his children and his household after him. As the husbandman, can God testify that you are living your life according to His perfect will? Can God testify that you will command your children and household to do His perfect will? Can your children and household follow you to do the perfect will of God?
Abraham’s life pleased God. He understood the ways of God. His life reflected the good and godly nature of God, in character, conduct, actions, and words spoken, so it was easy for him to command his children and household after him. And indeed, his children and household followed him (Gen.17:1).
As the husbandman, you must understand that you are a representative of Jesus and a reflection of His image and likeness in your household (Matt.5:14-16). You are responsible in commanding and training your children and household in the way of the Lord (Eph.5:25-26, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.3:4-5). This is why you must watch your conduct, actions and words to ensure they are in line with the word of God (Matt.5:39, Rom.12:2).
Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, had this testimony that made people follow him.
The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach (Acts 1:1)
Jesus was doing all the right things according to the Father’s instructions, by His actions, words and conduct before He began to teach the people. This is what made them follow Him. Therefore, engage with the Word of God and start doing what the Word of God commands you to do as the man, husband and father, first, then you can begin to command your children and household to follow after your actions, conduct and behaviour.
Hallelujah!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from living a double personality.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to know You more and more, and grant me grace to obey and follow all Your commandments.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do and teach what I do to my household so they can follow me.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give myself to know Jesus and His ways, and I do all He instructs and commands me to do by my actions, conduct, behaviours and words spoken, so my life can command my household to follow after me because that is what makes the good and godly husbandman in Jesus’ name. Amen.
