LOVE IS SUPERIOR TO GIFTS

Spread the love

Today’s message is directed to husbands who are workers in the house of God. They may be bishops, pastors, prophets, apostles, evangelists, deacons, or bible teachers. God wants you to know that love is greater than the gifts of the Spirit.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and knowledge, and though I have all faith, so I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned and have not love, it profiteth me nothing (1Cor.13:1-3)

Thank God for the gift of faith or of prophecy, or of signs and wonders, or even of knowledge you may have, and operating as a minister of the gospel. They do not substitute for the love God wants you to give to your wife. God commands you to love your wife as He has loved you (Eph.5:25). He did not ask her to love you because she doesn’t have the capacity to love you but to respect and honour you, which is the fruits your love towards her produces (Eph.5:33). Furthermore, the love God commands you to give to your wife is a seed that has the capacity to bear fruits, if done truthfully, prayerfully, unconditionally and consistently (Gen.8:22, Gal.6:7-9, 2Tim.2:6).

But what is the content of the love God wants me to give to my wife and keep giving to her (1Cor.13:4-7)?

God wants you to be patient with your wife because she may not be perfect as you. God wants you to be kind to her, first, before extending same to outsiders. God doesn’t want you to envy her, even as she makes progress in her endeavours. God wants you to honour her both at home, outside the home, and before people, sincerely. God wants you to always seek her best interest. God doesn’t want her to irritate you so much, so you are easily angered. God doesn’t want you to keep records of her past mistakes, offences or errors. God wants you to rejoice with her when she is rejoicing and identify with her hurt when she is hurting, rather than always taking delight when she fails. God wants you to always protect her, trust her, and be hopeful that she will be better. God wants you to be truthful and endure her.

Love your wife as Christ has loved the church, including you. It is profitable.

Hallelujah!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for neglecting Your commandment to love my wife.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to sow love seeds as You have commanded into the life of my wife, faithfully and consistently.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my love seed to bear fruit of honour and respect from my wife towards me.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take responsibility to continue sowing the love seed into the life of my wife as commanded by God, and I reap the harvest of respect and honour as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus’ name. Amen.

GOOD REPORT FROM THE FIELD

  • I really appreciate the day in day out devotional teaching. I have been on for roughly 4 weeks, and it has helped me calm down, hold myself accountable to my household and share Jesus Christ through my actions (James, W).
