The Woman Of Samaria

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Jn.4:7-20

More Scriptures: Gal.4:19, Jn.3:16, Lk.6:37

There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said unto her, give me water to drink (Jn.4:7).

The Scripture I want to share with husbands today is quite long. But I encourage every husband to please take time to study the entire verses of John’s Gospel chapter 7 from verse 7 to 20. I trust that the Person of the Holy Spirit will inspire you to becoming a good and godly husband.

Can you imagine a righteous Jesus relating with an adulterer (Jn.4:18)? He did not only have a conversation with her, He also took time to teach her the word of God (Jn.4:21-24). This is what a good and godly husband does to his flock. He doesn’t condemn his flock neither does he treat them disrespectfully, irrespective of their obvious failures. Rather, what the godly husband does is to extend the love of Christ to his flock, in mercy and compassion. He also empowers his wife and children to become godly followers by teaching them, patiently. A lot of the times as the head of your family, your wife and children are bound to make mistakes. Sometimes these mistakes may be intentional and other times it may be unintentional. But it is wisdom to see through their faults with the eyes of the love of Jesus Christ. Jesus had every reason not to get into conversation with the woman. Yet, He did. He loved the woman because He did not come to condemn us but to restore us back to God’s original plan for man.

As the head of your family, the love of Jesus that you extend to your flock in their falling state is what gives them hope to become better sheep. For instance, rather them treat your wife or children with discontent because they have offended you, you can pray for them. In Gal. 4, the Scripture tells us that the leader, Apostle Paul, travailed in prayers until Christ was formed in them. In prayers, you can redirect their attention from what is wrong to what is right. And it is the prayer of faith that will make your prayer and teaching effectual in their lives.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, save me from always condemning my flock.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to stand in prayers for my flock when they fail.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to love my flock as You would.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to treat my wife and children with respect and honour despite their failures because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
